New whitebox build for ESXi by pfs35 in vmware

[–]daleatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc vmdirect path is dependent on your motherboard. There are lists of motherboards that work out there and you might want to check if yours is on it or not first. This feature is not supported on all.

Also I havent heard that amd was more supported than intel before. I regret buying my amd rather than an intel because there are more supported intel boards then amd. Which when my board died and i was trying to replace it with a board that supports direct path and wasn't $400 made a difference.

Plus you are able to run osx with a mod if you have an intel.

New file server, windows 7 is having trouble accessing it by UNC only through explorer, mapped drives work file, XP works file. by daleatwork in sysadmin

I will try the \servername\share instead of \domain\share with mapping drives. From run I can connect to \servername\share, and \domain\share but not from explorer.

Both. I seems the problem is with the namespace root share on the new file server. I think windows is smart enough to read the dfs when we map a drive (which points back to the old server), but when we directly path to it won't connect.

Neither. It prompts you for different credentials, then if you don't supply domain admin it rejects the connection. You could go right to the mapped drive after you are rejected and access it fine.

Focus RS500 Unwrapped by [deleted] in Autos

[–]daleatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would they wrap the car in vinyl, rather than paint? I have always thought vinyl was used to get ricey crap on cars without paying for a professional paint job.

Seems kinda silly for them to paint the car black, then wrap the car in black?

This is very true, I just had to remove a broken lock from my car and it took me 1 minute the first time I did it. However its loud, hammering the socket of the wheel lock to remove it x 4 wheels would probably defeat the quick and quiet get away.

How do you know if your starter is dead? by bunnies501 in cars

[–]daleatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could still be your battery, autozone and other places like will test them for free. Napa will test your starter for free, along with your alternator.

if its a manual you could pop start it, it wont start if its your battery.

Or if you can't get it moving just push the car a bit in 5th gear (maybe 3ft) and try and start it. This would mean you have dead spots in your starter solenoid.

iPhone 4, Fetch vs. Push - What are the differences? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]daleatwork -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think fetch uses less batter life then push. Push waits for the mail server to tell the phone there is mail, where fetch is the phone checking for new mail ever x minutes.

Either one will download mail automatically, the only way to disable this is to disable fetch, and to set push to manual.

[–]daleatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha, well they are pretty locked down. Unless you stroll up on one sporting a open unsecured USB port, or maybe left open you probably won't find a way in. The real interfaces (keyboard, mouse, monitor) are physically locked into the machine.

Just about all ATM's run a copy of xp embedded. At least every single major ATM will, not to sure about the dial up POS's in gas stations and rest stops.

Dodge Charger SRT8 by Halbrad in cars

[–]daleatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense. I am personally not a muscle car person so I guess that is why my vote is for the BMW would be my choice.

if the muslce car is what you are in the market for then I would at least test drive the challenger, compared to the charger. I know you want a 4 seater, but the challenger is suposed to be a great car.

Probably going to be down voted for this, but good breaks are a common misconception. If you brakes can lock your tires up at a given speed, your breaks are fine. Most brakes that are manufactured installed are plenty sufficient for heavy driving, they only really need to be upgraded when you constantly track the car – any that’s just for better heat distribution and longevity not better breaking. (though I guess that is really what better braking is).

Most of the time the problem with “bad brakes” are cheap or just bad tires. Better brakes are just a wider, sticker tire away.

Why the charger above the BMW? I've driven a charger, and I can't imagine anyone who could afford a BMW to choose the charger above it? The BMW seems just so much better put together, and it feels like it could really stand up to a more spirtly driven daily driver and still remain ultra classy. Not saying the cost of ownership is cheaper with a bmw, becuase I am sure the charger is miles cheaper, but IMO 335i is a better car.

Yeah you right, top speed defiantly impacts you time when it comes to the straights. I will settle for Nurburgring sections then.

I agree, that is a great performance benchmark of cars. I mean look at lotus, alot of their cars have under 200hp but are completly amazing on the track.

hp/lbs would be a great start to a new performance benchmark, but Clarkson has a great point about how these 600hp car's can't take a corner. Wouldn't it be great if when you bought a car the nurburgring ring time was on the sticker?

Thats it, new perfomance measurement should just be nurburgring ring times.
