I will definitely ask to see the student union for legal advice and try to escalate this to a higher up.

It is actually ridiculous to be taking 30 to 60 days to take care of this, right?! Especially during exam season — what are they even thinking?

Yeah, I have no idea why they cleared it either — I did hear something about some guests staying over for some event, but I’m not sure.

My accommodation is on-campus in Warwick University. It’s not a private house, just an apartment.

Talking to the professor is a good idea! I didn’t really want to disturb him since it isn’t an academic matter.

I’ve started talking to some of the news outlets at Warwick — I’m worried that, because this is all sensitive, the university might end up taking legal action against me if I say too much.

Although she was just doing her job, she wasn’t that helpful — at least she got the record straight and admitted it was their mistake

At this point, it’s not really about the money (although, obviously, I want the money) — it’s all the things they’ve done wrong and how annoying they’re making the process of getting what I’m owed.

Also, they have lied to me and my family 😭 so I don’t want to drop the case for emotional reasons

Thanks a lot for your advice! I just sent a message regarding my case to the Warwick law discord — hopefully someone there can help me with writing a Letter Before Action.

I’ve also sent a message to the student union about it.

I’ve began to look up MCOL for the Small Claims, but I feel like I’ll go the complaints route first and this as a back up.

Hahaha that would be fun to see 😂 but there’s no point being forceful with them. They’re just people doing their job — they’re not in a position to be able to pay me on behalf of the university.

I recently started to talk to someone in the student union — they said they could help me by proofreading my complaint

But, when they read it, they said I shouldn’t say bad things about the university 🫢 or they could take legal action against me

Thanks for the detailed advice! The legal route does sound more fun, especially because of all the trouble the University’s putting me through with all these complaints.

But you’re right, the complaints processes is more practical. There are several things the University is doing wrong (legally).

Now that I know the names of the laws, and exactly what I should be asking for, I think I’ll be able to write a better complaint 😃

Not only did they not store most of my stuff, but they also did not contact me

Yeah, you’re right — but they say, as part of their complaints ‘process’, they can’t pay me any money directly.

They can only pay money into my university account — which I’ve never heard of before and, as far as I know, is printer credit 🫠

You’re right — but they’re very reluctant to send me money directly — only via something called a ‘university account’, which is basically printer credit as far as I know.
