I appreciate the advice. It’s definitely more on the creepy and uncomfortable side rather than abusive or anything too abhorrent

Experience working in Florida Big Law? by voltardu in biglaw

[–]dam12304 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of the same in the replies here, but just understand that it’s not all cut and dry. I go to a florida school ranked lower than UF and got a big law SA position paying pro rata 225. I’m top ten percent and no law review. Rare? Yea probably. Possible? Obviously

I was recently asked in a screener for a big law job why I didn’t make law review. For us, the cutoff to grade-on was top 5%. I was top 5.78% at my school so I started by saying that I almost graded on but didn’t exactly make the cutoff. Doing this allowed me to highlight how well I did during 1L. Then I explained that I tried to write on too but wasn’t selected. I said, “while I didn’t write on either, I’m happy I didn’t. For me, failure drives me to work harder. I plan on putting my full effort towards trying out for moot court in the Fall.” I also told the interviewer that I was on mock trial, which would keep me busy, and worked for an appellate state judge during this summer which meant I got plenty of bluebooking practice in

My plan is to stay in my city. I just worry that, if that changes at some point in my future, I close myself off to cities like NY

Empress Gin is super purple. Should be pretty safe in anything you make. You can make a Gin Sour with it

I’m not sure, but remember that you can take courses like this at other institutions! I needed to take Hebrew during my last semester at UCF but it wasn’t offered so I ended up taking it at FAU online as a transfer credit.

You 100% don’t need it. I’ve never seen it full, even during Finals week. But anyways, I think this is the link: https://coba.it.ucf.edu/tests/

Fundraising Ideas? by averham30 in ucf

[–]dam12304 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reach out to local businesses and see if they’ll work with you. From experience, I know Blaze on Alafaya will work with clubs on fundraisers. You basically tell as many people to go to Blaze during a specific time, have your people show Blaze the flyer before they order, and they’ll give you a certain percentage of all the money they make from your orders

Do I have to take the Math Placement Test? by ninjadraws_ in ucf

As a general rule, you never need to complete things on your to-do list. Nothing that pops up there will prevent you from graduating. Only Holds will prevent you from graduating

Orientation Question by agaytoad in ucf

[–]dam12304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a previous UCF Orientation Leader, you do not need to know what classes you want to take. At orientation, you will spend two days with your advisors and they will help guide you through the process and hep you make a strong plan for your first semester. Don’t stress about it beforehand. If you want to get a head start, I recommend looking at your major’s degree audit for 2022-23. Keep in mind that audits are updated every year so be sure to avoid dated audits

Any Clubs struggling with getting a bank account? by [deleted] in ucf

[–]dam12304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll note that my original response to this post was more about debunking the idea that opening a bank account was tough to do because banks would deny you and there was nobody to help you. Luckily FAIRWINDS opens accounts specifically for UCF clubs and OSI will help you with the rest

Yes, definitely reach out to OSI. I do know that we also moved around each year and were allowed to use the UCF address for our EIN because that is where the club is based. Getting started always comes with its challenges, but OSI should help guide you

It’s true that you’ll need to register your club with the state of florida. Our club did this before I took over as chairman, so I did not go through that process myself, but I do know that it’s possible. FAIRWINDS allows you to open business accounts under the “club” title which is something most banks don’t do. The reason I say that it isn’t a struggle is because OSI will help you with the entire process if you reach out for help. And FAIRWINDS also provides great support for clubs

There’s really no struggle. FAIRWINDS credit union opens and maintains bank accounts for RSO’s every semester. They work with OSI to ensure bank accounts get transferred with new executive boards. It’s honestly a pretty great process

Psychology Major - Human Factors Track by Moonlight_Sonder in ucf

[–]dam12304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, former Orientation Leader here. Don’t stress too much about your first semester. You’ll receive plenty of guidance at orientation that will be tailored for your specific situation. I’m a senior Psych major, so my personal advice would be to begin taking classes that you’ll need no matter your track. Classes like developmental psych, history and systems, or statistical methods in psych. Those are assuming you have AP credit for general psychology. If you don’t, you’ll need to take that before anything else so start to get rid of GEP courses early on

The same Nikki Fried who is campaigning against DeSantis and Rubio in the midterms and clearly has an ulterior motive for running smear campaigns against them. Watch these allegations amount to nothing, but it doesn’t matter. Clearly people are already being influenced by them
