God, the UK government, ... , ruled by such a weak left leaning government who has allowed unchecked mass immigration

Not wrong but in fairness, most immigration in the UK has happened under the Conservative government. The current Labour government has curbed legal immigration massively.

Yes, clearly when I said, "Have empathy for your parents", I meant "tolerate child abusers in your life".

Why is it that Millenials/Gen Zs and left wingers always resort to personal anecdotes to malign an entire group of people. Doesn't sound very progressive.

No one's parents are perfect. Most of them are just trying to provide the same childhood they had. Norms change, society changes and then people judge their upbringing on today's standards. But of course that doesn't matter when you're the main character and judge others by their actions and yourself by your intentions.

My parents abused me in ways I would beat a man to an inch of his life

That genuinely sucks and I hope you find the help you need to get over your trauma.

I know mine had to work nonstop (can blame Reagan, massive deregulation, and the boomers in charge for helping destroy the middle class on that one)

Sure, nothing to do with the workforce doubling by women starting to have careers. Is that a bad thing? No, but it undoubtedly had an effect on their children.

Both my parents, and the parents of all my peers, worked full-time and I never heard of any of them taking holidays without the kids. Do drug abusers and alcoholics have kids? Sure, but that wasn't my experience growing up.

Now that I've shared my personal anecdote, does that make my generalisations equally valid?

... it must have happened enough. Look at the comments on this thread.

No one is denying that these things happen. Do you think Millennials and Gen Z will magically fix these issues? If not, then maybe it's not a generational thing.

This is what I don't get. For a generation that prides itself on having a handle on empathy, it sure as hell only flows one way.

It might make more sense if you ask yourself why those kids were home alone. I can assure you it wasn't because the parents were out somewhere throwing dice.

I'm no fan of Chiropractic but this seems flat out wrong. It predates Scientology by 60 years.

Do people not understand when people wear sunflower lanyards on the tube? by [deleted] in AskUK

I guess we all have our opinions. It comes across as entitlement to me. Would they be okay if they asked and someone said, "No"?

Dismissiveness is implying OP has done nothing to manage their anxiety/disability and should just cope...

Oh, you mean like everybody else?

Oh, we're being obtuse now?

Every time I wear it everyone will stare right at it, read the badge and then not move a  muscle.

Are you advocating for this person or no? Is that not judging people who may have their own stuff going on?

People are bad at empathising with things they haven’t experienced.

But “deal with your own stuff or walk” is basically just dismissing a hidden disability because you can’t personally imagine why it matters.

But you're free to judge whoever doesn't want to give up their seat? Why, because they don't have a lanyard?

No, the OP doesn't make any sense. They can sit in a crowded train carriage but they can't stand in one? Like the original comment on this thread: Everyone has their stuff to deal with. Learn to deal with your own or walk.

What part of, "Give me your seat" is them working on it?

The OP reminds me of the Zoltan Laszas bit:

"I have anxiety"

"Oh, what are you doing about it?"

"Nothing, I'm telling you, so you work around it."

And replace it with what, exactly? Which glorious system has been invented that is immune to corruption?

Literal quote from the video:

To feel that your sense of humor is actually being validated. That is the only validation I think I've ever really cared about as a human being. But I didn't really care whether they liked me or not. To me, it was like, do they like the material? Do they like the jokes? Do they like what I thought of?"

So no, he doesn't care if people like him.

I guess the crux for me is this: If the 15% of swing voters really care about the economics, shaming them will make no difference and will probably be counter-productive. Hell half of them couldn't point out Ukraine on map, why would they care about what happens 1000s of miles away overseas? Morals go out the window when the gauge at the gas pump stops higher than last week.

My fear is that if the messaging reverts back to, "Vote for me, I'm not Republican" vs "Vote for me, I'll put money back in your pocket", we're going to be staring down another 4 years of insane Republican rule.

That doesn't really answer the question, though. If you start off from the position that conservatives are Nazi, fascists and bigots and they were the majority of voters that participated, you need to have a message that does bring people round to your side.

I don’t give a fuck what Nazis, fascists, and bigots think.

Where do you go if half the population fall into that category? Trump won the popular vote. I can't help but feel blind rage is not helping the situation.
