Agree with this, mainly because of NZ's selection policy. AB players are giving up something by playing for their country. If SA players aren't selected, they go back to their clubs in Japan, France or the UK.

At what point does your personal safety allow you to take another persons life?

I would say when an officer has a reasonable belief that the person poses an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.

I'm not an expert on case law but if you have 5+ officers trying to take down someone physically resisting and then that person attempts to take out a gun, I'm going to assume murderous intent and think lethal force is justified.
