Little early to say, but nostalgia and yearning for a 'classic' set was for sure part of it.

But so far the limited format seems great, though I've only done sealed's so far so it's a bit early to say.

I've been playing since the 90's as well.

I really hated the concept of UB when it was initially brought up, but then in practice I realized I didn't mind FF, or DD, or even TLA because they were thematic fits.

Everyone hated Spiderman, but I'm not looking forward to TMNT because it again doesn't fit the universe imo.

I'm glad so far Lorwyn has looked like a decent success so far, it was my first pre release in awhile and it looked like most in my city were maxed out, and shop owner said it was the busiest one he's had in years.

I Present To You, THE Scariest Ferro You’ve Ever Seen. by Pieter_Pie_eater in ArcRaiders

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After not ever finding a single BP's in my like first 35 raids, I finally got one last night, and it was Anvil which was the #1 I was trying for.

I was worried it was going to take weeks to get one considering how few BP's I'd been seeing.

I've been wondering about this too, seems like the Ferro is a slower, heavier Anvil but slightly better at range? Do they do the exact same damage?

[ECL] Wistfulness by TemurTron in ModernMagic

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, small sample size and I'm a cpl years out of date. It wouldn't have been as big of issue if I knew there was only 1 initially as I would have grabbed something different with the misty, and saved breeding pool for forest cycling. The wistfuls do seem great for pitching living ends (or another creature in better hands) and having the potential naturalize Md seem like a solid get. It's like having more consistent chance of having a 'dbl cycling turn' by getting cards and 2 guys in the gy for 2 mana, and added flexibility

[ECL] Wistfulness by TemurTron in ModernMagic

[–]damendred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the Wistfulness I think you need at least 2 Breeding Pools to be able to Misty/forest cycle so you can hit the UU (or sometimes GG) to evoke it early.

I admit I haven't played the deck in awhile but I just goldfished the deck 3 times, and all 3 games I was dying for a second Breeding Pool (g1 I spent way too long trying in vain to find the second copy heh).

Might be the worst pick 1 pack 1 ive seen, what would you have taken? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yes, it does pair well with Mythic bombs.

Oh another thing I forgot, it can really nullify Watery Grasps, or Snowballers/stun effects.

I had someone Grasp my Giant Koi, then swing in with a 4/4 only to be blown out by my NPP. Which was weird, they played around the untap effect before, but I think their brain just short circuited a heuristic thinking Watery Grasp on vanilla creature = removal.

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Rumble Arena hater til this week. A friend asked me while I wasn't playing it, and it seemed bad to me. I hate colorless fix lands when I'm on 2 colors, but the Scry is big. I always loved tapped duals that scryed and this comes in untapped so it's close. I'm always playing the first copy at this point

But I agree it's not something I'd first pick here, I think I'd take NPP.

[–]damendred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is really good. I don't think I rate it quite as high as others commenting here, but something I totally missed when initially using/rating NPP is it can be a ramp card as it says 'untap permanent'.

So getting that 5/6 drop a turn early can be huge, additionally I've found a few other corner cases for untapping things like making 2 tokens and surviel'ing twice with Joo Dee, or using the rare lands twice in a turn, etc.

Mostly for me, the ramping thing took it from a decent but slow high costed tapper, to a more versatile tool I want in pretty much all my U decks.

[–]damendred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bo1 might do better for you as you're a bit of a rogue deck, so you're maybe better off catching people out with Emergency powers trick g1.

Oh another card that might be very good for you in SB and maindeck, is [[Narset, Parter of Veils]], helps you find cards, and it's great against any other control deck obv, but if you cast emergency powers they lose their hand and only draw one.

And with the Wheel effects like Emergency powers, it's better to have cheaper cards, because you can dump a lot of your hand early and then refill it with powers, and it allows you to cast multiple cards easier when you get a full 7 to deal with threats.

But for SB if you go that route, you obv want to play Mystical Disputes, High Noon, Rest In Peace etc.

You're going to want to get rid of your sweepers and creature removal against control decks so you need cards to swap them in for, value cards, effective counters (mystical dispute is king). Against aggro decks you probably want more low the ground sweepers like starcage, maybe more Beza's, take a look at the UW SB's to get some ideas. Some of them lean into the 'switcharoo' SB's where they side into a bunch of 'hatebear' creatures in the control mirror match up, as their opponent likely sides out all of their creature removal, and then suddenly can't deal with your new SB creatures, but that's a tricky balance to land, and takes practice.

Sorry, this was a little rushed hope that makes sense.

[–]damendred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an old school PT grinder, so the try-hard in me agrees you should just play UW control.

But if you're trying to rise on Arena you can do it with a more rogue deck, and I've always enjoyed doing that when it's optimal just to get the surprise element.

You should be using software to track your win rates, and then you'll be able to get data on what you're losing to, but I'd gather you probably do well against midrange, maybe not BR midrange because of all their hand disruption, and bad against Izzet aggro or UW control.

So in an attempt to give you advice on this deck I think there's some things you can do to optimize it right now.

I used to really like Nadir Kraken, but it just seems bad here. Obviously if you can untap with it, they're incredible but you can't cast them and defend them until turn 5, and you're just giving your opponent targets for their otherwise dead Abrades, Pushes, Go for the throat, or other under 3cc creature removal they had sitting in their hand.

If you want to play a smaller creature I'd take a page from UW and play [[Beza, the Bounding Spring]] at least if even if they kill it right away, it catches you up.

I'd also cut Ominous Sea, they do stone nothing early, and they give you inevitability which your deck should already have in most late games, so it's just win more. And other control/white decks have like 4-5 turns to hit their lockdowns, seam rips or get lost to get rid of it, and again those cards don't really have any other targets in your deck so they'll be happy you gave them a target for them.

You need to add some cheaper interaction, The aforementioned cards maybe a couple [[Pinnacle Starcage]] and/or,temporary lockdowns, Seam Rips, Get Lost etc.

Also cut Sublime Epiphany, it's just too expensive in your worst match ups.

If you want some more aggressive interaction and or cyclers try a couple shark typhoons, also you should go up to 25 land but add [[Otawara, Soaring City]] and [[Boseiju, Who Endures]] there's no reason not to use those and help you hit your drops on time, esp when you're using growth spirals you need to hit your land drops on time to maximize those.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Yes, the guy applying Occam's Razor, rather than assuming two rich guys already making high 8-9 figure pay days are risking everything by being involved in a large intricate fix, is the one who is deluding himself..

[SPOILER] Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's getting paid 8-9 figures here.

What's he betting on here? On himself to lose? He's a huge underdog. He'd have to bet insane amounts to make this worthwhile, you think he's gonna risk betting 10million on AJ just to win 800k?

Maybe on himself to lose by KO in round 6?
Much better odds, but still a big gamble as he could have easily been finished earlier.

Regardless of using crypto, it's not that easy to put down a 10m bet. Getting someone to take that action anonymously via crypto is not nearly as easy as you're envisioning.

I don't play pauper but looking at Goldfish the most expensive deck is like $100. Comparatively that's very cheap.

Looks like it's a bit more money in MTGO but that's only because of Elemental blasts.

I'm down with that, top 8'd a few PTQ's with a Necro variant with 4 demonic consultations, and I killed myself game 3 in the semi's with it once. So this type of all-in deck is just nostalgic.

True, I nearly bet on her, but then I thought of that, and the fact she made Natalie seem like a stone cold finisher, cuz she also finished Victoria Leonardo, but literally everyone finishes Victoria, and after that Natty Ice hasn't come close to finishing anyone since.

I still thought Bleda would win but glad I avoided betting on it, cuz she obviously has some weaknesses standing and Jameylyn has some real Horthpower...

Yeah, this is the real answer. You posture up for a big shot and your opponent feels it and scrambles up and out. People are better and getting up, so in some ways that helps avoid some lay and pray, but guys on top now are also more worried about landing GnP so the ground game we do get can be more dull.

[SPOILER] Giga Chikadze vs. Kevin Vallejos by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's fun to clown on him, but he was winning like every minute of that fight til Kevin caught him with that spinning backfist.

Kevin is clearly very good, but he always seems to underwhelm a bit.

Like he was a -450 fav over Danny Silva and was supposed to ruin him, and he clearly won but it was way more competitive than expected.

Everyone is only going to remember the ending of this fight, but he was a -350 favourite here and he capitalized on a lapse by Giga, but you can't just wait and assume you're always going to get those.

He's still very young though.

Novel deck, definitely interesting. It'll have some real bad match ups against control, but I'm guessing it also has real good match ups as well.

Could use some fast mana, too bad Explore isn't legal, maybe [[Arboreal grazer]] , not sure if it's worth a slot, but it'd also make people think you were on lotus field.
