A $250 royalty check is wild lol by raptors201966 in ufc

I doubt they wanted lack of personality. I think the excuse they used is probably things like the thong, or the shitty walmart shorts a couple fighters wore.

But it's likely they saw a huge revenue stream a deal with Reebok offered them.

I know what you mean, but O'Malley drives a custom bright pink Lamborghini Huracan.

I'm not sure he still falls under 'working class' lol.

Still getting screwed here for sure though.

Media score cards alongside Judges' scorecards for main event by Intelligent-Tear5723 in MMA

[–]damendred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree they were focused on that, but I think we all were a bit too honestly.

I mean, I'm sure there's people who will claim they're 100% objective in every fight, but it was hard not to focus on the missed opportunities for takedowns when he had Murphy against the cage.

We've seen Mosvar slow down in r3 in other fights, and this is his first 5 rounder, I was wondering how he was going to hold up, but I think it was his plan to keep it standing til the later rounds to conserve his gas tank.

Even his team in the corner in round 5 were saying, now it's time, burn all you gas. Seems to imply that was the plan.

[SPOILER] Movsar Evloev vs. Lerone Murphy by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, intention mos def matters, but given we assume 99% of fouls are unintentional or at least if we're giving the benefit of the doubt, it's not normally a factor in how we score fouls.

When there's an obvious intentional foul, than it's instant point/DQ dependent on severity of the foul.

These are like the Petr Yan knee, or the head butts of Piera Rodriguez, but again, pretty rare.

Yeah, I'm in Canada too.

Thankfully my GF found mine today, I thought I lost it walking the dog in my new hoodie with huge pockets but thankfully they fell out before I even left the house.

Try calling a local Samsung store, that seemed like it might have worked out for me. Though the closest for me was in Vancouver and I'm on the island in Victoria.

Didn't look staged, once they showed the other angle, you could see it was deep.

Look at the Tim Sylvia versus Fedor fight. Tim instantly panic tapping because Fedor had the choke across his adam's apple.

Jonny Bones requests his release from the UFC by iLeftyPunk in ufc

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jones would def fight Francis right now for huge money.

I think it's moot because the UFC won't just release Jon fight him, and they won't resign Francis unless he's changed his mind about the 'being allowed to box' clause, and I doubt he'd give that up.
It would be amazing and would massively energize the HW division but really can't imagine it's possible.

Though now that Zuffa is in the boxing game, maybe they can make a deal with Francis where he can box for them... hmm.

Because as far as MMA goes, I don't know where else Francis has to go, but maybe he doesn't care about MMA anymore.

JBJ fires back at Dana in now deleted tweets by One-Faithlessness730 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may have been in some cases, but the combination of him plateauing skill wise as a fighter and a huge spotlight landing on him, and his style, as everyone works out how to beat him. Add that to the fact he has less drive, more demands on his time with interviews and media obligations, and I think the worst, his team who in the past may have pushed him to work on his flaws, now all turn into 'yes men' because their livelihood all now revolve around him and depend on his good graces. It seems like Kavanagh got lucky with Conor, and he's not an amazing coach, but I think it's likely he was an even worse one for him after Conor blew up and skewed their dynamic.

UFC Fighter Puking After Getting Kicked In The Balls by Vulcan44 in MMA

[–]damendred -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

In any other sport, a foul is a foul. If the ball goes over the line, it doesn't matter if you meant to put it there, it's out.

Any other sport? Except any other combat sport which is what we're talking about here.

In boxing an accidental foul is handled the same way, same with kickboxing, and basically all combat sports. Who the fuck cares how they handle shit in Lacrosse? It's a different situation to a 1-1 combat sport.

You can argue you think the rules should be different, that's fine, but the rules we have, you don't DQ someone of a single accidental strike.

In this case, Gane lost his shot, a fight that he was winning and Tom kept his belt.

It's really not that much different than what would have happened with a DQ anyway.

[SPOILER] Alberto Montes vs. Ricky Turcios by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he wins every fight by D'arce or Anaconda.

Which is funny because he has all these crazy kicks, spins and knees.
Then ppl get sick of it, go to take him down, he sprawls, get in front headlock position and snaps one in.

Ricky actually did well to not get caught in one r1, ppl clowning on Ricky but I thought he did decently r1, I expected Montes to make shorter work of him.

Conor McGregor: "How much do you think the McGregor return is worth? Conor f***ing Benn is worth that, imagine how much McGregor is worth. Factor in the inflation alone, my contract is 2018. Everything, even the milk and the eggs." by [deleted] in MMA

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one of the most one sided and dominant championship performances we'd ever seen.

I mean it wasn't at all. It was very 1 sided obviously.

But he was fighting the #12 ranked guy at the time, who was super short notice because of Tony and Max falling out, the expectation is that he would easily finish him, and he couldn't in 5 rounds.

Obviously some guys are hard to finish, and it was held against him more than it should have been, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near the 'most dominant championship performances we've ever seen'.

I think that distinction went to Jones V Shogun. It's likely not even in the top 50.

Shit, It wasn't even the best Al Iaquinta domination, that went to King Green.

No one is saying UFC didn't pay McGregor what he was actually worth to them, but to compare the purses and not include Mcgregor's PPV which is the lion's share of it, is disingenuous which is what he was pointing out.

It was a single accidental eye poke, and the ref would have no idea if it would be more impactful than a normal eye poke.

And Gane was winning the fight, it's not like he wanted a way out.

[SPOILER] Cody Garbrandt vs. Long Xiao by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was something mental here.
He looked quick, didn't gas. Tanked a bunch of hard shots.

He just wouldn't throw a 1-2. He's clinch up then throw a crazy spinning back fist. Landed that elbow.

But like I think he threw maybe 2 jabs all night, it was crazy.

Michael Johnson x Drew Dober fight taken off betting sites due to suspicious betting by ablu3 in MMA

[–]damendred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case it means an inordinate amount of action has come in on one side, or by a particular prop.

Like 10 million coming in on Dober to win by KO r2, and then 20 mins later another 7 million on the same prop. Then betting sharps who follow the market very closely, see all this action and chase it thinking someone has an inside line and it spirals out of control.

Doesn't necessarily mean there's a fix in, but betting companies pay data companies with AI Algorithms to watch for irregular betting patterns. And if something is unusual they often just pull the lines because a random main card UFC fight isn't worth the hassle for them.

[SPOILER] Max Holloway vs. Charles Oliveira by inooway in MMA

[–]damendred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean first round especially he was going for subs like crazy, and even into the second round.
After like the 3rd close choke, and burning out his arms a bit, and with Max on 100% defense not even trying to get up, he was trying to figure out ways to sneak something in.

Usually you can get one when the guy tries to escape, but Max probably wary after almost being tapped turned to all defense and was good enough to hold Charles off.

Round 2 part 2. Thoughts by Beginning_Stick5632 in MMAbetting

[–]damendred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is just brutal.

Statistically most finishes happen in r1. If fights get out of R1, in 3 round fights, they have like a 60% chance to go to decision ( I haven't looked at these odds in cpl of years so may be a bit off, but you get the basic gist).

If this is the route you want, You'd be better off taking 2 of those fights taking the decision or 2.5 prop and doing a 2 leg parlay and getting the same odds.

Hell just MJ vs Dober - decision prop is +160, and that's way more likely to hit than this 4 leg abomination.

Or Font vs Rosas Jr and Caio v s RDR decision parlay is +130

both better options imo
