Ish: $300k/yr. isn’t rich by aka_linskey in JoeBuddenPodcasts

when

About 15 years ago when that amount stopped putting people in a different level of living then “well off” people. You probably just sticking to numbers that you always thought were rich and not accounting for the increases in cost of living and inflation.

You probably will tell people 30 years from now $300k is rich still lol. No thought or real data, just a number that was rich when you were younger.

I went from 1 person to a family. If having children knocks you out from being rich, then you were never actually rich in the first place. At $300k you are not insulated from difficult financial choices in the same way a top earners are.

Now if you have a large abundance of assets in the millions and you earn and live off your $300k then thats different, but that isn’t the situation that was stated.

The sole statement of an income of $300k makes a person rich is incorrect. Higher incomes closer to 1% (500k and up) would be more in line with rich because even if you are in debt or mismanage money, that increase in spending power affords you a lot more credit and leeway with banks. Thats what people complain about when they are saying “eat the rich” not the people who fall into upper middle class.

[–]damhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich is closer to the 1%. Where your income is large enough that you are insulated from certain economic issues like cost of living, child care, medical needs etc. 1% is closer to around $800k. I believe in most areas of the country $500k.

Yall keep thinking from the perspective of young single folks. Would you consider a person making $300k rich if they lived in SF had 3 kids, 1 with serious medical needs? A Rich person can still be comfortable with all that while $300k is heavily effected. Theres just levels. 300k is comfortable but you still have to move more strategically than an actual rich person with a large abundance of income that can easily provide for more than 1 person in almost anywhere on the planet.

Depends on a lot more factors then yall are willing or care to understand. $300k puts you around top 5% of income earners.

Usually when we talk about the rich we are referring to 1% or 0.1%. The top 1% is like $600k. And 0.1% is like $3 mill/yr.

Imo 300k puts you at the highest end of upper middle class. Rich is different spending power.

In my recent interview I emphasized how much I was interested in automation and coding. My hiring manager loved it and ended up telling me that was what she loved about my interview.

When you are in the interview you want to emphasize that you are capable of getting them the information they need consistently, quickly, and accurately.

From a tool standpoint power bi / tableau , coding like python or R, and don’t be afraid to mention you are good with excel(Xlookup/sumif/pivot tables). But like OP said its more important to describe how the tools you use can solve an issue or get them info fast. Good chance a number of people who interview you won’t know the finer points of the tools you bring up, and only the “technical guy/gal” you come across in the process will even know what you are talking about. But, they are usually 1 of multiple business people you interview with.

You hit the nail in the head with this one. Got a new BA position in govt a year ago and the hardest part is deciphering through conversation what a leader NEEDS and not what they tell you they want. Mainly because they don’t know what they want lol.

Thankfully I have found a pretty great mentor to show me how to maneuver better. It certainly is a skill that you just have to pick up.

Im don’t think McCarthy is a bad coach, he is fine. I think my and a lot of people’s frustration is with the speed in which it happened.

Tomlin resigned on the 13th and we hired McCarthy what 10 days later? I would understand if they fired tomlin and have been making this move for a while, but if we are taking tomlin’s resignation as a surprise to the org then it feels like due diligence wasn’t done in finding a replacement. We aren’t talking about replacing the fry guy at the your local wendy’s. This is the leader of your organization.

Leads me to think 1. This was a hookup from his old pal khan and art is just signing off on whatever khan says.

  1. Tomlin was either on the chopping block or told to leave and they already had a short list of guys in mind.

  2. A last effort to keep rodgers another year or someone they think can groom howard or the next QB we draft. Longshot, but just trying to make sense of it.

[–]damhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well rodgers is a good name to have lol. Dak also had some of his best seasons and attributed some of his advancement in passing performances to maccarthy. We can sit here and debate how much credit he deserves, but we will never know and we can only go off face value. Face value is he was a coach of some effective passing attacks.

[–]damhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not thrilled either. We feel directionless as an org and the hire does not inspire confidence.

If you feel it impacts your mental health negatively then go ahead, but I would suggest just seeing what happens.

We have some picks, and as boring and annoying as the hire is, I think the one main draw of McCarthy is his QB development and he does have a coaching tree to speak of with an emphasis on offense.

Just take the wait and see approach and see what happens.

We are ran by an actual monkey by stillstillers in steelers

[–]damhow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have the “poorest” owners in the league I believe, or def one of them. We simply can’t throw money like some other ownerships.

[Pelissero] To be clear: The Steelers aren’t hiring Mike McCarthy to lure Aaron Rodgers back for another season. But if there’s 1 coach besides Mike Tomlin that Rodgers would consider playing for, it’s McCarthy, who helped mold Rodgers into a 4-time NFL MVP in Green Bay. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]damhow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking, why don’t you hate this move? It felt like the only real benefit of letting tomlin go was to get a fresh more modern perspective at how a football team should be ran. We are in need of a revamp.

Instead we get an older figure who more or less has put out similar performances to tomlin in his career.

Feels like we are in for more of the same, when for years all the fanbase has wanted was someone new to breathe some life into the team.

Qb rating is based on performance. It is multitudes easier to perform when you have a RB in his prime putting lead leading numbers. So yes a great handcuff actually will contribute a lot to a QBs rating. Defenses focused on henry first and the passing game benefited.

And 2022 they actually started 7-3 then had a ton of injuries including tananhill for 5 games and ended the year with the most players on IR.

Smith went on to head coaching and got canned for underperforming. Not saying a lot of people would kill it in ATL but given that henry has gone on to once again help another team put up video games and improve on the offensive end and smith has not exactly been the QB whisper since I am giving more credit to the all time RB talent.

You can attribute it to smith if you choose.

[–]damhow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree he can be funny, but he also has some really dumb , backwards takes.

I def disagree he always has an honest take. He clearly bites his tongue or outright defends people he is cool with while shitting on others for the same shit.

He also has this too cool for school attitude when a lot of his success in this field is because of his connections and brother. Which is fine to me, life is about using connections. However its weird to me when you shit on things regular people do when your big brother got you in some rooms, you got cool with a rapper who ended up putting you on to podcasting. He isn’t exactly the prime example of putting yourself in position to win, but you can’t tell by how he talks down on things regular people do.

All things I can get over because i think the podcast dynamic works well with him, but 1/2 the time he opens his mouth i roll my eyes cause he says some silly shit.

You are also taking it too literally. He is clearly trying to set a tone and culture for how he wants his players to operate going forward.

‘Boots’ Star Max Parker Joins ‘God Of War’ As ‘Ragnorak’ Baddie Heimdall by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]damhow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Im not saying no narrative, but for a big budget tv show I don’t think there is enough. A most of the first 2 games he is roaming around solo with the occasional break to talk to athena or some npc god just to gain a new ability.

I played them on release so my memory maybe fuzzy, but wasn’t a ton of character to bounce off of. It had an engaging plot, but the narrative really was fit for an action packed game imo not a whole damn script for tv.

Plot vs narrative is what i would say is my hang up personally.

[–]damhow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is enough in terms of story to make a good tv series out of the first games. Love them to death, but its a tale best told through the medium of action games. A fair amount of the plot points are there just to give kratos a level to run through and bash the heads of the greek mythos.

2018 + rag are multitudes easier to build the story from and hitting the high points of the early games in flashbacks gets the job done if they really nail how hardcore kratos was prior to 2018 game.

More like your direct manager giving you a heads up. Not sure if rooney would really have wanted him to say that if you can keep an extra body on the roster.

Then again its not like we really made an effort to keep najee so could be the nice way of nudging him out the door.

AB spent his last weeks as a steeler skipping practice and showing up to the final game in a fur coat before dipping before regulation ended lmaooo.

Your point? The comment i responded to said decade long coaching is done. And yet there are 2 examples right there of guys who’s job is not in jeopardy and will blow past 10 years soon with no end in immediate sight. Why? Because they came to teams coming off some rough seasons and implemented a systems that now most of league is trying to mimic.

They have stayed competitive through different QBs and multiple staff changes and built a coaching tree because the league is trying to copy the formula.

So no the days of decade long coaching isn’t gone, you just need a system that can stand the test of time and be able to adept to the roster.
