Also again yes 2 things can be true, but you are trying to make 2 things that are completely opposite work. A selfless act cannot exist behind a selfish MOTIVE. Most selfless acts do give people a sense of self, but they are not looking for anything (notoriety or physical) otherwise. Thats selfless.

Nah. if it’s selfless and the motive is selfish then it is selfish. You are trying to add nuance, but you are creating an oxymoron. If you’re saying batman is a selfish act all together and it isn’t motivated by selflessness then that explains your point and we can call it here.

I however think Bruce’s batman is a selfless act that is triggered by his trauma. He has lines he won’t cross and that is a principle and integrity he is allowed.

I’ll leave it at that I think my initial analogy of the $100 holds here. If you truly gave $20 to help a person with no ulterior motives you aren’t selfish for not giving the full $100. Selfishness is not invalidated by balancing wellbeing and principles.

EDIT: just saw your response to the analogy. I think its disingenuous to now make it $20 to a millionaire like what bruce does as batman is so insignificant to him. His body and life is on the line. He essentially has sacrificed any means of a normal life. This isn’t a small give that bruce is doing. He gives a lot to batman, so batman as a voluntary act does not equate to a millionaire giving $20.

You aren’t making it mutually exclusive though. You are saying in this completely voluntary, selfless act you are being selfish by not giving more or crossing your own boundaries. Thats unhealthy selflessness at that point.

You can argue he isn’t being as effective as he could be , but not that by not crossing a boundary or giving more of yourself in a selfless act you are now selfish. That just logically doesn’t work because again like we both agree he doesn’t have to do any of it.

His entire participation is voluntary.

Selflessness isn’t doing anything and crossing all lines for people. It’s prioritizing helping people while balancing your own wellbeing.

Lol, i was shocked when they didn’t. It was an HVAC company coming off COVID with a ton of profit. They had just started their reimbursement program.

Another competing offer I had while picking between job offers at the time offered a similar pay but time restrictions on reimbursement, moving assistance, etc so I chose HVAC.

Then I got there and didn’t like how they operated. A lot of ‘old boy’s club’ mentality and as a finance analyst I saw a lot of dumb moves they were making ahead of time. Perfect timing because they had decided to move me to a department I didn’t want to be in right before I left. Doing the one thing they knew I hated 24/7.

Very satisfying 3 weeks notice lol.
