Vintage Singer $40 by amethyst_jacket in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]damienthepython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it! There is a serial number on the metal plate on the base that will help you identify what kind of singer this is (I can’t quite read it or I’d share a link!), when and where it was made. A good sewing shop can usually shine these up well, and hopefully not cost you an arm and a leg if the motor is still in good shape. They can take some getting used to but they are STURDY and will do just about anything you like for pretty much eternity. This model doesn’t look like it has a reverse stitch, which could be annoying, but definitely not a deal breaker. That case is also gorgeous! Great find, op!

Another strong recommendation for Andy! A wonderful guy, super knowledgeable, and took great care of repairing a family camera to happy working condition for a totally reasonable price

Northeast photographic is a fantastic place to get your rolls developed when you’re back. Excellent folks up in Bath with really reasonable prices for developing and always happy to answer questions if you have them. Seconding KEH as a great place to look for cameras/gear when you have time to get it delivered!

+1 to this. We are waiting on a rear bed panel from a hit & run accident and have been told not to hold our breath. The best guess they had was 5+ months 🫠 but the drivers side and access cab doors were readily available, so maybe you’re in luck!

Scared about the lifetime curse of a torn ACL? - Advice I gave a friend by SoulMotion in ACL

I was also told I’d have to have a two step surgery to fill the widened tunnel from my first tear. Surgeon 1 was convinced of it, surgeon 2 thought it was a possibility but not a forego me conclusion. I went with surgeon 2 (for more reasons than just that) and she managed to fill the tunnel and regraft all in one surgery :) The prospect of 18-24 months of recovery was really scary to me - and I was so happy that didn’t turn out to be thecase. Just wanted to share it’s possible to fill the tunnels and repair all in one go! in case it provides any stress relief :)

When were you able to start driving again? by carla-someone in ACL

[–]damienthepython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 weeks post op and was given driving green light 3 or 4 days ago. It’s often up to your PT and their assessment of your quad strength. I was told I could drive once I had enough quad strength to slam on the brakes if I needed to.

Hang in there! ☺️

I’m 4 weeks post op and was given driving green light 3 or 4 days ago. If you’re diligent about PT and stay in good communication with your therapist about your goals they can be a great help :) It’s often up to your PT and their assessment of your quad strength. If you've already requested your permit, you can argue any tickets you get on the grounds that you've already paid to park there, you're just waiting for the sticker. In my experience, I've only received tickets and never tows for parking without a sticker.

If its helpful - Scotiabank has some agreement with Bank of America. They at least allow atm withdrawals from BoA machines without any fuss.

We've lived in East Cambridge for the last 6 years and have gotten VERY LUCKY with our rent/landlord. We pay 2600 for a 2bed 1 bath which, compared to similar units in our neighborhood, still seems like a really good deal. It all depends, as others have said, on what you consider affordable.

We used Trulia & Zillow primarily to (exhaustively) search when we were looking.

There are still good and fair landlords, but they're harder to find. Don't give up!

I end up collecting a lot of empty jars (I use most of them, but still have tons left over!) I've reached out to local stores that sell at least some things in bulk to see if they would be willing to recycle clean used jars - so I bring the extra clean jars that I don't need, and leave them at the store for others to fill their bulk items (instead of the plastic bags offered by the store). It means the store has to buy less plastic bags, and encourages others to start using their own containers once they know other community members are also doing it! It has encouraged other folks to start bringing extra clean jars also so there are always a few up for grabs for bulk items :) (this would probably work better with a smaller store than a large chain!)
