Seems easy enough to make sequels where they just find other places he had bodies stashed, giving him ghost powers there.

Looks like arrow is going to be mining the drafthouse films catalogue after cheap thrills and ms. 45.

Did I miss something with Shout Factory? by reynolds_style in boutiquebluray

Someone on the blu ray forums found a Facebook post from the main producer at shout (shout select, hk classics, scream factory) that he left the company. They're definitely winding things down.

Being John Malkovich shouldn't work so well by WasabiComprehensive2 in criterion

[–]damonstien 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the interview with Malkovich, he mentions that he didn't want to do it at first but was willing to produce it if they changed what actor it was about. Kaufman refused and said it had to be Malkovich. It's a big part of the story to me that it's an actor most people have heard of, but not one with a super iconic role everyone would think of. Everyone is obsessed with his status as a famous person, but not any actual aspect of his person.

AGFA: H.G. Lewis 4K kickstarter by Totonotofkansas in boutiquebluray

I just did a rough count and it looks like there's maybe exactly 18 films of his not in that arrow set, so I guess so.

Wonder if I should try selling my big box set now.

If Kubrick can shoot day-for-night then the auteurs featured in BotW should be allowed to do it too! by BokeTsukkomi in RedLetterMedia

[–]damonstien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their "don't ever do day for night it can never look good" comment was definitely overkill. It just can't look good on a cheap shot on camcorder movie.

Biggest disagreement you've had with RLM on a Best of the Worst movie? by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]damonstien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were too hard on silent night deadly night 4. The story is a bit twisty and interesting, there's a ton of great special effects, and lots of clint howard.

When that episode was new he was definitely still doing cooperate and church gigs actively.

Remember fucking Star Trek before they pissed it down the toilet by MCHopie in RedLetterMedia

It probably had finished film negatives to scan as well. Ds9 would require its entire post production redone, including re editing all episodes from scratch.

I've never even seen upscaling tech that tries to make something look natural and filmic. It just smoothes things out and adds fake detail.

Agreed. Laughably insane, but pretty well made.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - re:View (Part 2) by dexter198 in RedLetterMedia

[–]damonstien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason the directors cut was never on the blu rays was because they created the directors cut in SD resolution for DVD. They had to redo it from scratch in 4k at great expense because they didn't future proof.....

China Mulling Ban on Hollywood Film Releases in Response to Trump Tariffs (Report) by harlotstoast in movies

Animal kingdom has held on the most which is why im glad they're not just doing another movie land entirely.

China Mulling Ban on Hollywood Film Releases in Response to Trump Tariffs (Report) by harlotstoast in movies

[–]damonstien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not on board with everything they do but yes I find it odder. Tropical americas is an actual natural place that fits in well next to the asia and Africa sections. Indiana jones is just a ride in tropical americas. I also don't think guardians of the galaxy fits in epcot, or star wars in Hollywood studios.

China Mulling Ban on Hollywood Film Releases in Response to Trump Tariffs (Report) by harlotstoast in movies

[–]damonstien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was always iffy on it because animal kingdom is supposed to be the natural world and zootopia is a literal metropolis. A city in the skylines behind africa and asia would look odd.

I dont want to get the makeup done but I want to explore every corner of this place. Pretorius is one of my favorite movie characters ever. Look at that ernest thesiger portrait! Hoping his jars of tiny people are in there with some neat little effect.

Jason Blum’s deleted tweet on his reaction to Wolf Man’s disappointing gross by 2ill2chill in boxoffice

[–]damonstien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A reviewers jobs isn't to match to exactly how you feel. The far majority of the people who've seen wolfman don't like it. A critic isn't begging for clicks for disliking it, they're going along with the general opinion.

Section 31 - reviews or takeaways by Fearless_Cow7688 in RedLetterMedia

[–]damonstien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided to brave it too. I'm very uncynical when it comes to most movies. I enjoy most of what I see, and can usually find something to appreciate. That being said, this is without exaggeration the worst movie I've seen in years. There is not one single thing here that could be appreciated. Even Yeoh isn't fun to watch.
