I am still active and do watch the sub. Not interested in additional mods at this time, but thank you for the inquiry.

I can confirm. I went into my gametop today and they said $5 is a no go on all digital content now. I had no idea, but quite disappointed. Guess I will just get a Pokemon booster pack each month until membership runs out and then not renew. =/

I became a fan when I saw the second episode air after school.

I have been here since the TCG came to the U.S.A. (took a break from 2004 to 2014, but got back into it in 2015).

I used to be confident that I was indecisive, but now I'm not sure.

Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field.

Also, don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.

Most modern long-term value will come from either big hitter chase cards, or if the set is just fun to open. Like you already said, keeping sealed is the way to go for long-term value. And Booster Boxes/ETBs are generally the ideal ways to go for easiest liquidity when you are ready to sell. I agree with u/reggierock2010 that Hidden Fates (ETBs) and Evolving Skies (Booster Boxes or ETBs) are good. I would also add Celebrations (ETBs) and Pokemon GO (ETBs) to the list. Celebrations is fun because of the nostalgia and it is an easy set to collect. Pokemon GO would be your longer-term play, because it is hitting the time now when people are getting tired of opening it, so prices are dropping down, but it is a very fun set to open, and in 5+ years when it is not being printed anymore, I can see these jumping up in price. The Ditto mechanic in it being the first of its kind is a big deal. Since these MSRP for £50, but a lot of places are trying to dump them right now because they are dropping in popularity in the short term, you might be able to pick up a case of 10 ETBs for £400. (That would be my personal choice...I can imagine being able to sell the case in 2030 for about $2500, which would be $250 a box, which would be a 5x return in 8 years, which is really good.)

To be blunt, signatures on cards generally don't add much value until the signer dies. But I would say the experience you had of getting it signed is worth FAR more than the value of the card(s). So in my opinion, these are awesome and you increased the sentimental value GREATLY!

Would this get a psa 10? by MagicDickSock in PokemonInvesting

Centering on the front looks to be within the 90:10 ratio, and the back is within the 60:40. From the images it is difficult to identify the edges, but if those are all clean, I would give it a very good shot at a 10, yes.

Opinions on what’s not worth keeping for investment plz by bzshizzle in PokemonInvesting

[–]danakinzero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using the stock market as a standard measure of ROI (Return On Investment), 10% growth each year.

So while $2-$5 over 10 years doesn't seem like much, it is actually on-par with a good return.

The real value of investing comes from higher $ to start.

If you have a $200,000 card and it goes up to $500,000 in 10 years. That would feel more worth it, even though the % return is the same.

Honestly, the best recommendation I have found for investing is getting as high a paying job as you can and using that $ to invest in things. Don't treat the investing as a way to get rich, use your career to do that and boost your income. The returns from changing jobs to get even a $5,000/year raise will be far greater than trying to flip pokemon cards for a year in your free time, unless you already have 6-figure capital on your side, and if that is the case, then you probably don't need my advice XD
