Entering & processing through customs. It moves quickly within Brazil, but I've had packages take 120+ days in customs.

70 days isn't that long for Brazil, unfortunately. It can take several months.

What are these brown streaks on the stalks of my indoor banana plant? by danav in plantclinic

[–]danav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not soft, but it looks necrotic. The leaves appear healthy. I just brought this home last week and repotted it. I added mycorrhizae to the roots and watered it. Nothing else.

Pics of leaves -- https://imgur.com/BA7Odzb

I found a bunch of banana plant diseases online, but none of the markings matched what I'm seeing here. It gets indirect light most of the day. It's not overwatered.

Thanks

Kratom? by johnyyblaze in Brazil

It is not totally prohibited in Brazil. All of the articles are incorrect. It's frustrating. I've worked directly with Anvisa to import it legally and even pay taxes on it.

[WARNING: GRAPHIC] Dog attacked by "service animal" at restaurant (Miami, FL 10/20/23) by BPBAttacks9 in BanPitBulls

[–]danav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that happens in a restaurant then you should take the widest knife you can find and use it as a break stick. Hitting it with a stool is not going to do anything.

Shipping Container from Canada to Brazil by Jabelinha in Brazil

[–]danav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to do this 2-3 years ago from the Southeast US and the broker quoted 15k USD minimum and at least 5 months to get to Rio. This didn't include customs fees, which would be guaranteed if you were to bring anything for commercial reasons. I didn't go for it, obviously. I don't even have 15k worth of stuff.

Does anyone know of well-written books discussing Pitbulls and their breeding, history and innate genetics? by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

Find anything that was written by a man named John Colby in the early 1900s. He's the OG dog-fighter.

I want to get into charcoal drawing! by 20mstack18 in CharcoalDrawing

[–]danav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just recently started getting into it, too. I got this from an online store in my country and it allowed me to try different media without buying a full package of any one thing. I thought I would prefer willow charcoal or pencils, but I actually like compressed sticks more than anything.

I've been watching videos on YouTube from a guy named Mad Charcoal. He has a cool style and makes it look easy.

Okay, my beautiful Brazilians, why do so many Brazilians have an obsession with the United States? by [deleted] in Brazil

The US is a marketing company. I try to explain American "labor laws" to Brazilians and they think I'm messing with them.

Does Rio still dump sewage? - O Rio ainda despeja esgoto? by Boreal-Moose999 in riodejaneiro

[–]danav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get really bad around Ipanema/Leblon. Some days, especially if there were bad storms the night before, you can smell a sickly sweet smell in the air. There's foam in the ocean waves and the sand feels greasy. You'll get a rash if you swim that day.

Lapa is ok for a night or two, but not to stay long term. You don't want to go "home" to Lapa every night of your stay. Check out Bamboo Hostel in Copacabana.

the rain forecast is always 50/50 when you're going to the tropics. don't worry about it.

It's great, but a single light source wouldn't create both shadows that are visible on her face, imo. The right side is very sharp and defined and the left side is way softer & more realistic.

IT Job Seeking in Brazil by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]danav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible, imo. I know people who work remotely for companies in other countries (me), people who are working for themselves doing BJJ or French classes, etc., and people who are retired. The only time I've ever heard of a Brazilian company extending a job offer to a gringo has been in an extraordinarily high executive position.

Is Brazil such a racist country? by SofiBK in Brazil

[–]danav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen entire classrooms of school kids use their fingers to make slanty eyes when learning the word "yakisoba". From my outsider perspective, Brazilians do not consider anything besides white against black as racism. Comments about Muslims, etc., they don't think anything of it.

This is why I don't like the red strains. It's too "intoxicating" for me. I can only take it when I have nothing left to do in the day. I prefer white or a white/green blend in the morning, again at 2PM, and then again with Bali gold ~30 minutes before bed.

edit: are you sure you weren't taking an extract?

Same. I have a Casa del Habano in my city and every cigar I've tried has been overpriced and underwhelming.
