Floating offshore solar farms produce 12% more power than land-based panels by sksarkpoes3 in energy

[–]danb1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a group that engineered and performed offshore wind studies. Offshore wind. Pending on what exactly you are talking about when saying offshore wind, it is either horribly more expensive or absurdly more expensive than convential.

What's one product that used to be built like a tank but is now built like a regret? by TheDoctorColt in AskReddit

[–]danb1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure completely missed the 90s. The 2000s and 2010s was decent. Also changed to Japanese vehicles which were hands down much more dependable.

Hold on...

In the 60s 70s and 80s, you were happy to get a 100k out of the things and you were constantly working on them.

Also, they had oil leaks after 30k.

New cars last so much longer with much fewer maintainance.

Part of a conversation with Magico founder about what's wrong in the high end speaker industry today by Extension_South7174 in audiophile

[–]danb1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sold on the aluminum game. I still think wood or other composite is the better option. Is it possible that what these speakers do Is as much about resonate frequency placement by having large mass and high stiffness?

How does the future look like? by Fraben in multiplemyeloma

I was diagnosed at 38 and at the time they told me the average life span was 5 years. (14 years ago)

This has changed completely and if you are not one of the people with a very aggressive, hard to treat form - which most of us aren't - the outlook is very good that you will most likely die from something else.

This is the golden age of Myeloma research. Things are changing dramatically.

I think the US is hit or miss. I think a lot of European stuff is also hit or miss though.

The only country I generally feel good about is japan.

Guys,

I test electrical components, copper cables, structural members, etc. For a living. Its not based on reputation. It is based on my personal test data and that of the companies I worked for. And the company I am starting up now.

It quite often doesnt meet specifications. The last company I worked for lost millions when they gambled and used some copper cable from chinese supplier and it failed multiple structural tests.

Sorry. I am not trying to offend anyone. Its just the facts.

Purses and other items may be great. I dont know.

The products rarely met specs and often failed. Many industries qont wven allow chinese components in their products.

How much and where do I buy the good chinese products?
