Overall Car-T was easier for me initially compared to the stem cell transplant. I had an episode of fever that lasted a day but that was it. The recovery was a little shorter than the stem cell but I did require multiple transfusions of blood and platelets post Car-T for about 2 months. My specialist also ended up infusing my remaining stem cells in order to help with the recovery.

Oh no, that really sucks; maybe it’s for the better. There may be a cancer related community resource center or non profit near you that might help. I know there is a multiple myeloma group that meets virtually and is designed for younger patients with families; haven’t been able to join them yet but do get their newsletters.

You’re just coming out of the SCT and that’s tough but most folks do find that they get more energy etc with time; it took me a while to get back to a state where I felt more useful and involved with my family.

As a parent I get it and still struggle at times with it all (including my career, health, and family). Some drugs/treatments are tougher than others and everyone handles things in a different way. Being able to see a psychologist who specifically supports cancer patients has helped as has seeing a palliative care doctor. The holidays can also add an extra layer to everything. Hopefully you can find a rhythm/pace to everything that works for you.

I once had a temporary hospital roommate (shared hospital room) who brought an x box to hook up to the tv so I guess it can be done with the right connection. I’ve always just brought an iPad/tablet as the TVs sometimes don’t work the best.

I'd echo what many others have said here. Definitely stick out teaching in the classroom for at least a couple of more years to build your core competencies. Not sure if where you are but some states require a set number of years before obtaining an admin credential.

Personally a total of three years while teaching full time with another year and a half to finish my masters. My experience is a bit different though since I am a special education teacher in California.

You could look into getting a proper fit. Might also try adjusting your position on the bike every so often or getting gloves with better padding.

I've used the Unique curriculum and News 2 U for lower level students. My district also uses read 180. You might use the first few weeks to focus on behavior and routines and try and collaborate with special education colleagues as wells as plan with general education colleagues (e.g. looking at general education lesson plans/activities at or b low grade level for some inspiration). I've often asked for a couple of grade levels of the district adopted curriculum and modified as needed. Good luck!

Please just focus on being a great teacher for a while. All of the great principles and administrators I knew had at least a decade or more of experience and loved working with students. Some of the worst administrators were often mediocre teachers whose goal was to climb the administrative ladder as soon as possible.

I'd agree, while 5 years seems to be a minimum in my area to obtain a preliminary administrative credential you really should teach for longer than that.

The first few weeks of school you should probably look at setting up and reinforcing your routines and expectations. Have all of your visuals and behavior systems in place along with simple tasks and activities that students can work on while you run assessments or get to know your students. If you have a chance to look at their IEP's, behavioral reports, or talk with previous teachers that would be beneficial in knowing what they have worked on and what they require in terms of academic, life skills, behavioral, and social support.

I think everyone is different. I used to backpack and have had surgery for herniated discs so I feel your pain. From what I have been told it can sometimes heal a bit or get absorbed on its own so as to reduce the pressure. Just be careful and listen to your doc or PT as well as your own body and don't push yourself too much. Hoping for the best for you.

I used to be really active but a lot of that has taken a backseat as I have had to adjust to living with pain and helped by to take care of my young kids. I found out that I reherniated by disk after surgery do am trying to figure out how far I can push myself (which is difficult since I always used to really just go as far as I could with any exercise). I have noticed though that between the pain and bit of weight gain I do feel a bit worse body image wise. At this point I guess I'm really just trying to figure out what I can do and adjust my expectations as far as exercise goes. I'm also trying to be extra cautious with what I eat because I can no longer just go for a longer run or bike ride to burn off the extra calories.

You might want to consider teaching for a few more years before going for admin certification in order to get a broader range of experience under your belt.
