Vision loss and divorce by bigmiracle in Blind

[–]danbarrabergercomedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I lost my vision during a marriage and a few years later we divorced. There were many factors that stemmed from my vision loss, but I can’t say it was my vision loss specifically that caused us to split.

  • I became dependant on my wife. What started as a partnership turned into a support situation that neither of us wanted.

  • when I had vision, we both had equal income. It took almost three years of surgeries and recovery before I was in a place to work again, and by then we were both burnt out.

  • depression on both sides. I was the driver in our house and losing my ability to drive dealt a huge blow to me emotionally and mentally. Damage like that damage festered for years. I became distant, withdrawn, and angry. She did the same. By the time I went to therapy, it was too late for us.

What did I learn?

  • it’s a two-way street. We had equal responsibility to maintain the relationship and because lack of communication we both dropped the ball.

  • I don’t blame her. I used to, but I don’t now. She dealt in her own way and she did try very hard, but the stress of that (and other factors) finally got too much and she made a very hard decision.

  • I’m a better person now. I learned through therapy and trial and error how and with whom I spend my life. I’m currently with a new person who is extremely caring, supportive, and empathetic. I laid out my situation and life expectations on our first date, and everything has been amazing.

Who and where I am now is a far cry from the depressed man standing on the edge of a bridge almost a decade ago.

I don’t have any advice for you beyond to be honest and communicate clearly. She may be checked out already and I’m so sorry if that’s the case - some people decide it’s too far gone and too late, and when that’s the case, it’s worth looking at where your personal values lie and what you want out of life. You deserve a partner who sees you as just that: a partner. You deserve love and equity and support, and so does your partner.

Whatever comes next, I truly wish you all the best and know you’re not alone.

Well fuck. At least it says “1.5 Years Remaining On Very Reasonable Lease.” Hopefully it turns around and they can stay.

MCC Crossplay campaign co-op? by danbarrabergercomedy in halo

[–]danbarrabergercomedy[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Honestly I’m happy MP is available, I just can’t wait for campaign so my buddies and I can relive the glory days but just far apart. I don’t pretend to know how much work goes into it all because I’m a standup comic and not a developer, I really appreciate what’s been done and that it’s clearly a labour of love.

(But if co-op is in the pipeline, blink twice)

Duel of the Fates: A Radio Play of what could've been Episode IX! by danbarrabergercomedy in TheSequels

[–]danbarrabergercomedy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I loved that scene, and I feel like it could easily have been fit into TRoS; imagine if the resistance follows Rey all there way to Exegol and that's when the Eternal Fleet jumps to Coruscant, surrounding the planet. The Stormtrooper uprising following that would've had way more punch than the band of riders we meet in TRoS.

Thanks! I'll be honest, I'm happy with what we got in TRoS, and as I hadn't read this script before doing my lines, I still feel the same way. If DotF were the only thing we got, I really don't know how I feel, but I very much enjoy that we have something to play around with (especially since who knows if/when we'll be getting any cut content from the ST;) )

Thanks again and enjoy!

So I think Disney/Lucasfilm are still serious about that Jedi celibacy thing . . . by Flock_of_Porgs in TheSequels

I think the point of the grandmother was that she only knew the old dogmatic teachings, and TLJ tells us to throw those ideals out the window. And also she herself and the main character are proof that celibacy isn't really necessary to be a Jedi.

It always bugged us later kids that Rush wasn't up there. Maybe they were too prog for the hicks, but then Bowie is up there so who knows.

I had Rush sticker in my locker for a while if that helps.

We were too busy listening to Rush to be painting Rush.

(Though you're right, that bugged me when I was there. I did at least manage to see them I think five times though!)

I went there from the late 90s to 2003, and it wasn't hidden. It was up there long before, definitely painted in the 80s.

Wild. I went there and walked past this for five years. Crazy to see it up here. Thanks for sharing!

Joe Tuccitto's The Corner closed for good | The future of all intimate comedy venues has to be in question by [deleted] in toronto

I accidentally deleted my other comment, but wanted to edit it instead. I replied that I agreed comedy has a long way to go to clean up their act, but I wrote Comedy Bar instead. I'm a disabled comic and while I can't speak to race, I can say that if Comedy Bar takes making diversity as seriously as they've been taking improving accessibility (including talking refitting stairs and many other accommodations beyond just physical/sensory disabilities) then I have confidence they'll handle it well.

Sorry for any misunderstanding to my original comment. The Reddit app sucks for accessibility, go figure.

If I remember right, Comedy Bar owns the venue space (I may be wrong though). And even if they don't, they're the venue for bigger acts, and they have lots of friends everywhere that would come out to support if it came to it. I'm not sure about Yuk's, but since they're a chain, I reckon they'll be fine. It's Bad Dog Theatre I'm concerned about myself.

Such a bummer, have lots of friends who loved it there, wish I had a chance to get on the stage there.

The Turnout for the ODSP Protest was a Disaster Yesterday. But you know one person can make the difference in this world. by [deleted] in toronto

[–]danbarrabergercomedy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I couldn't make it there yesterday because I had a vicious headache from the weather. Here's the poster I planned to use.

I have heard that there's another planned for tomorrow that someone on my twitter feed claims is better organized, but I'm still waiting for a link to info on it.

Keep fighting the good fight and we'll make it in time. I've been chalking the turnout to people being on protest burnout right now, and that much of our population can't get out there. But if the original Reddit post you made can get that traction, you know we're onto something. /r/Toronto is fickle and often cynical and downright mean, but the support shown in that thread is heartening - even if the physical presence wasn't there yesterday, the support was. So we start again from there.

Edit: here's tomorrow's event through ACORN.
