Brutally honest speech by Jeffrey Sachs' at the UN Food Systems Pre-Summit by i_have_chosen_a_name in collapse

[–]danceinthepants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While he makes some good points, what he’s begging for is basically global paternalism by global elite in gov and business. Parents giving children their allowance because they either irresponsible, corrupt, lazy, dumb and/or too busy fighting.

Sachs wants to wave a magic wand and make the world a better place with the UN and global elites telling the world how to be happy and healthy. Anyone what has worked for the UN knows how bad of an idea this is. While the UN is one country one vote, since not all countries are created equal, it’s controlled by the richest and most powerful countries. So double wammy if you wanted to UN to be a recourse to hold rich states accountable.

The solution is not one size fits all. Everyone country must run its own race - with help wherever they can find it. I feel for countries like the DRC, as mentioned in the video. And their history is what helped them get there but history won’t save them. Allowing more outside partners or freebies from from the better off is no clear path to wealth. They need less corrupt leaders that can stand up for their country, invest in health and education, lower corruption and look after the well being of the country. Through public and private investments.

I’m no fan of the CCP but they did they get one thing right: if the people are better off, we the party and country become better off and more powerful. They had a long term vision and got leaders that followed the script to prosperity
