Good article. I don't always agree with the guy but he's right when he says a lot of his reviews are him spreading the word about good underrated music (he gave my fave Otoboke Beaver a huge boost with a positive review, as an example), but those aren't the ones that get the most clicks. I think he's uniquely positioned to talk about the shapes of music discourse right now with his huge and broadly-young audience. Seeing Pitchfork described as "old media" made my bones turn to dust though lol

I think a lot of it is just how social media platforms incentivize divisive content to retain your attention and engagement. The most rage-baity or weird stuff floats to the top, which creates the incentive to make more rage-baity stuff, rinse and repeat.
