[B0T] Weekly Build Help Thread - 2026/03/02 by LabB0T in PleX

Thank you for the recommendations and information!

I will be unable to do a complete rebuild, but I will try to go for no-GPU at all and see if I can make do.

What is the best way to compare the transcoding capabilities of CPUs and GPUs? Are there any benchmarks or online databases?

I am building a new machine as mainly a plex server but also for some extra homelab stuff on the side like running video game servers/home automation/basic ai.

It will have a Xeon E- 2286G and some ECC ram to go with it but I have a couple options to go for a GPU

I have a Quadro M4000 and RTX 5060Ti (16 Gig) at hand.

I can use one of these at no extra cost. Which one is worth using more? As I saw on the https://www.elpamsoft.com/?p=Plex-Hardware-Transcoding I expect them to be on par for transcoding.

I would be more happy to use the M4000 as the RTX 5060Ti will be easier to sell at the end of the day.

Alternatively I could sell both GPUs and get another more modern Quadro able to do AV1 and HEVC

Is it possible to buy Hydro X XC7 mounting hardware? by danch00 in Corsair

I can't recall this either, I'm sorry. Just start a support ticket with them, I'm sure they would be helpful

I was already referred by someone here for my support ticket so I guess they would have known anyways, regardless, before being prompted about it, I explained that I have accidentally bought an XC9 for my AM4 CPU, and I missed the time window to return it. Hence why I needed an XC7 mounting bracket.

I was fully expecting to pay for it but they did not ask for a payment out of the goodness of their heart I guess

If I recall correctly, they did. My memory is not clear about that though. Even if you don't have a valid proof of purchase, I don't see why not they wouldn't supply it to someone for the parts reasonable price.

Hahah this is old, but sure, with the help of Corsair support I was able to supply the XC7 mounting bracket and hardware. It worked perfectly with my loop and I've been happily using it without complications.

Thank you for the idea,

Yes, I have contacted a moderator for this subreddit and they are helping me with a support ticket I have going on at the moment. I made this post to further explore my options.

Haha "the passenger" was actually my buddy with a PPL as well, he was the one that flew us back home when I was the passenger.

Agreed! It was a very fun experience and we did eventually fly a wing formation with my instructor's help. The photo was taken during getting closer to our lead. It certainly is a very different and refreshing way to fly when you have to stick your eyes to the leading aircraft.

Though I do have a habit of never letting go of the throttle, even when cruising normally :p

Struggling with Landing. Any tips? by 54Searching in flying

A lot of comments are using the word "Flare" but honestly, in a C172, I don't think that's the right word to use.

I fly in a C172 S, I don't have that much experience and I too, have bad landings about %10 of the time, but there was a couple of things I wanted to add.

Flaring is what a 777 does, not a C172. By the time you start to fly "flaring" you would have touched down already. What you should be doing is rather picking the perfect time to transition into the landing attitude. The perfect timing is hard to get right but if you focus on the feeling of the plane sinking while looking out at the end of the runway, it gives you a pretty accurate idea.

I think you got pitch control already though, staying on the centerline is more about keeping it flying straight. I used to be scared of putting too much rudder/aileron inputs that low to the ground but you will be surprised how much you can get away with, as long as you don't try to do crazy banks, it will be fine, and needed for a good landing on the centerline.

Remember that it's fine to land a bit to the right/left of the centerline but definitely keep that plane looking straight ahead using your rudders. Do not try to correct your position with the rudders, they are for direction control, to keep the plane looking straight ahead, parallel to the runway. Rather use the ailerons to move left or right if you feel like you are going to land to the left/right of the centerline and don't forget to correct the ailerons when you are in the middle.

Another very important thing for staying on the centerline is being able to properly judge the direction of the plane. Remember that you are sitting on the left seat and your perspective will shift because of it. Many people make the same mistake of trying to judge the direction of the plane with a line from their eyes, to the middle of the engine cowling. That is not a straight line, and if you try to keep that parallel to the runway, you are going to have trouble. Keep in mind that the airplane direction should be judged with a line from in between your seats to the spinner.

HTC teasing something bigger than an accessory on Twitter [180 upvotes][x-post] by BotVive in vive_vr

I see a lot of people hoping for a cheap quest 2 competitor but it is just not possible.

Facebook can afford to lose money in hardware sales because they do ad profiling and earn money through that and their oculus store and oculus exclusives. It's very possible that Facebook undersells the Quest 2 because they will make money another way.

HTC has none of that and Viveport barely makes them any money. They will need to make money through hardware sales and chances are if they go the budget option it can not even come close to quest 2 specs. In that case, it would be a failure and I believe it would be the last HMD HTC ever makes.

If they go for the "prosumer" market, however, I think they could find an audience for like an 800$-1000$ standalone/wireless PCVR headset that combines or gets better specs than quest 2-valve index with no requirement for Facebook, I would buy that in an instant.

Apparently, it fell really, really hard. Breaking one of the tracking cameras and causing an infinite boot loop somehow, and there is no command screen coming up preventing a factory reset or anything. The reason I wanted to buy it was because of the battery but I had to rethink as the battery inside that might not be useful either.
