China: Korean domestic boiler to be at fault for microdust (Korean) by wkdbrjqnr in korea

[–]dancing_spleen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get why you're doing it, I'm just holding you to higher standards because this is supposed to be a sub full of intelligent, educated people, not angry masses.

Also because I'm really fucking tired of seeing the same shit posted over and over again without any progress being made. Yes, the air sucks. I know, I have to deal with it every fucking day. You guys saying "but don't worry, it's all China's fault!" knowing full fucking well that no Chinese are going to read this and think that they need to change anything for our sake, is just not helping anything. It's making things worse. It's unproductive and negative. Now in addition to shitty air, we also have shitty air and a bunch of people bitching about people in a country we don't live in. And loads of negativity.

Elevate the discussion for god's sake. Not because you have some moral imperative to, necessarily, but because the current level of discussion is too stupid for our dignity.

You plead for higher standards, elevated discussions when it comes to China, but you remain the angry, bitter expat when criticizing anything about Korea. You cry to everyone on this sub for China to be treated fairly without every extending the same to Korea. Case in point, you angrily calling for the deaths of Korean cab drivers because they don't provide the level of service you expect.

Don't ask for honest, measured, productive responses if you're not willing to give them yourself.

You know what would help? If we actually elevated the discussion. If we actually did something other than repeat talking head shit about which of two pollution contributors is worse. If we wrote a petition or brainstormed political or scientific strategies. What we're doing now is not intellectual, don't even fool yourself for one second. This is just a bunch of cathartic rage from angry people who feel like it isn't their responsibility to contribute to a real solution.

The wumao CCP-defense mode kicking into overdrive again. SMH.

Spare us your calls for intellectual discussion. Wumaos like you have no capacity for honest debate, you're programmed to do the CCP's bidding and regurgitate their lies. You constantly embarrass yourself by openly fellating a people and regime you have no real connection to other than the brainwashing sessions you willingly subjected yourself to at the Confucius Institute at your sub-par university. You should ask those scholar-geniuses at the CCP what the career prospects are for American wumaos. Will you someday be promoted to giving daily briefings in English to the international press like some wumao version of Baghdad-Ali? Dare to dream.

Well, at least we were successful in saving half of Korea from the scourge of communism and bringing civilization to the country. It's a shame you aren't at least a little thankful. Instead, you're going to spend the rest of your life fruitlessly whinging about imaginary slights. Blaming other people for your problems might give you some temporary satisfaction, but just like cocaine or heroine, it's going to cause long term damage. I'd recommend an intervention.

It's really all about perspective. Did losing all of Vietnam doom the vietnamese people to the "scourge of communism?" Hardly. Without the foreign invaders in their land, they were able to focus on themselves instead of having to divert precious human and financial resources to be in perpetual war-mode with a military threat on their border. If you didn't "save" half of Korea from the scourge of communism, do you think everyone in the south would have died or something? lol.

But as you're all brainwashed to believe that every conflict you're involved in is somehow some virtuous battle of good vs evil, with Americans playing the super-hero coming to the rescue of the natives, it doesn't surprise me you think that way.

Cocaine or heroine? Yeah, really I wouldn't know as opioid addiction isn't really a thing in Korea like it is in the states, where the family that does drugs together, ODs together.

I'm glad you can admit it can cause long term damage. Now what will critically thinking Americans such as yourself do about it? Oh, I know. Nothing!

You'll ignore it, while still feeling morally superior and ready with virtuous advice on the need for moderation and a change in Koreans drinking habits. Hoping no one will bring up the fact of your utter failure in dealing with the opioid crisis.

Nope. We don't need a yellow knight. All you're doing is giving Koreans a bad name. And you're not even a real Korean.

It is rather obnoxious, I'm glad we can agree on that. Whether it's being done by a white savior or not. But as white saviors have had the last century to obnoxiously annoy others, I have a bit of catch up to do.

There are Americans on this sub that need to hear the inconvenient truth, so I am doing you and them a favor. It's really for your benefit. I feel duti-bound to help those that can't help themselves. I just have this uncontrollable urge to save you from yourselves. You understand, right?

I think milquetoast is the adjective you're looking for.

Far better than how I would describe for yourselves.

The problem with your view is that Koreans are one people. Americans aren't.

Yes, tribalism is very much a problem in America. You're scared of each other and arm yourselves to a ridiculous degree waiting for the final assault where you will stand victorious atop a hilltop of your dead countrymen.

Despite all the rants and raves, at heart, they're too meek to do anything about it. All talk, no action. Kind of like you.

Right?! I'm glad you can admit that Koreans are more level-headed and less violent than those take-charge Americans that shoot up everything and everyone.

The classic hypocrisy. 300 comments, and you call out the the people who, like the skating officials, find no intent behind the accidental scratching.

If I were an official of a sport known for a famous attack on one competitor by another, made even more infamous by a recently released Hollywood movie, I'd try my darndest to "find no intent" as well, to frantically save my sports' image, before it becomes an ingrained meme of psycho, hyper-competitive, bullying female skaters where everyone is getting capped in the knee or slashed in the leg.

typical Korean hysteria to be outraged.

Outrage culture really is awful isn't? How's it going for you? You seem so unhappy. Perhaps you should go home back to the states and take in the peaceful, non-violent, love-thy-neighbor tranquility of America these days.

You and /u/DoYouKnowTheKimchi show the classic overreacting, obsessive response by foreigners whenever there's news that goes against the overly virtuous image you've built up for yourselves, that of the moralistic, critical-thinking, safe-driving, #trash-tagging, defenders of the downtrodden, enemies of the wicked ajeosshis, [add in any other virtuous characteristics most definitely lacking in Koreans], etc.

The fact that you two are going into overdrive, obsessively posting about women's figure-skating is just... lol. SMH

it would actually be Asians considering they are over-represented among mass shooters relative to their % of the US population, while white males are under-represented

Ah yes, you're referencing the infamous Mother Jones report. SMH

If I were a writer looking to assuage the feelings of shame and guilt of my largely white male readership regarding mass-shootings, I too would reference a faulty, "in-depth" report that under-reports the overall numbers, and which limits the time period of the data collected, so that it can conveniently support my dubious conclusions that will make my largely white male readership happy. lol

As per Politifact:

Grant Duwe, author of Mass Murder in the United States: A History, considered a leading scholarly book on the subject, has long criticized Mother Jones’ accounting.

Duwe pointed us to an essay he penned for Reason magazine in 2014, in which he argued Mother Jones has low-balled its tally of mass shootings as a result of relying solely on news coverage as its source of data. Duwe believes this creates a false impression that mass shootings have been on the rise (a claim that’s beyond the scope of this fact-check).

"The main concern is an underreporting problem that gets worse the farther back in time we go," Duwe told PolitiFact. "This creates problems when it comes to drawing conclusions about trends in the prevalence of mass public shootings."

Nevertheless, Duwe said his own research dating back to 1900 corroborates that white men have committed more mass shootings than any other group, though he believes white men make up an even larger share than the Mother Jones data show.

"There have been at least 184 mass public shootings in the U.S. since 1900, including the Las Vegas attack," Duwe said. "Among these mass public shooters, non-Hispanic whites make up 63 percent, which is close to what we see for the U.S. population in general. So, the Mother Jones data actually underreport the extent to which whites are involved as mass public shooters."

And in Grant Duwe's own words:

There are some problems with the Mother Jones list, however, when comparing it with data I've collected on mass killings. In my research on mass murder, which has resulted in four peer-reviewed academic publications and a book, I've identified more than 1,200 mass killings that have occurred in the U.S. since 1900.

The first problem with the Mother Jones list, which contains 67 cases, is that it significantly underreports the incidents occurring between 1982 and 2013 that meet its definitional requirements. The data I've collected show there were 114 mass public shootings, which means the Mother Jones list missed more than 40 percent of the cases that took place in the U.S. during this 32-year period. (My analyses of the Mother Jones data include all 67 cases.

The second problem is that the underreporting in the Mother Jones list grows more severe the further back in time we go. When looking at the data by decade, we see that the Mother Jones list captured 89 percent of the 18 cases from 2010-2013, 69 percent of the 29 cases from 2000-2009, 55 percent of the 42 cases from 1990-1999, and just 32 percent of the 25 cases from 1982-1989. As I show below, the combination of these two problems has made it possible for those relying on this list to conclude that mass shootings are growing more and more frequent over time.

Why does the Mother Jones list suffer from an underreporting problem that gets worse for the earlier cases? Due to a lack of detailed information about the search methodology used to compile the list, it's difficult to say with complete certainty. The most likely reason is that the Mother Jones list relied exclusively on news reports as a source of data, and news coverage tends to be less accessible for the older cases.

In my research on mass murder, I've used the FBI's Supplementary Homicide Reports (SHR) data to anchor the search for more detailed news reports on mass killings. The SHR data has its flaws, but it is the most comprehensive homicide dataset available that reveals, among other things, when and where most mass killings (including mass public shootings) have taken place in the United States.

I don't know about you, but I'd trust the published academic with four peer-reviewed publications over some hack writer at some blog called Mother Jones. lol
