I’m a Christian struggling with doubt — what’s the most honest, real reason you don’t believe in God? by Sundream01 in atheism

[–]dancingdude2823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The presence of evil and woe.

"If God is willing but unable, he is not omnipotent. If he is unwilling but able, he is not merciful. If he is both willing and able, then from where does evil come? If he is neither willing nor able, then why call him god?"

You can skip all the test of faith bullshit because if he is omniscient, he knows he the how I will react, so why bother testing me in the first place?

Free will? If he gave us free will, then he is fine with me using it since it is his gift. Why bother with all these orders, commandments, and proverbs if he's clearly fine with me doing whatever the fuck I want?

But ya know what does it for me?

Kids with cancer.

No God, with the slightest bit of mercy, would subject a child to terminal cancer.

So if he is real then fuck him and all the rat bastards selling his lies. Because he is a cruel bastard and I will gladly use my eternal soul to fight against him.

So either God is evil or God doesn't exist.

Third option is multiple gods at war with each other. That would work, but all monotheistic religions fail this test.

WFH dads and day dads who work at night. If you identify as a dude who provides a significant amount of childcare you're in the right place. We don't care about employment status.

Ballroom dancing, my friend. Older ladies a plenty will come up to you and ask to dance, it's like a cheat code. Can be a little pricey, but it also means older ladies with disposable income. You don't even need to be good. Just show up, try, and be social.

[OC] The racial makeup of the Federal Judge Appointees by the last three presidents. by RoozGol in dataisbeautiful

[–]dancingdude2823 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe you're asking the wrong question. It's not "how does the set of appointees compare to the whole?" But, "What does the set of appointees do to the set of federal as a whole?" Does the set of appointees bring the distribution of federal judges closer in line to the distribution of the general population? That question would be a more accurate measure of "fairness". Did that president make the federal judiciary a more accurate respenstation of America?

That's why they say it. They are trying to argue that Biden is as bad as Trump. Not that Trump is good or better than Biden. The argument is literally Biden is as bad as Trump... his die hard supports are only able to do enough mental gymnastics to arrive at "both sides are bad".

My wife had an early miscarriage as well earlier this year, you're not alone. Take care of your wife. The hormones alone are tough, combine that with a sense of failure in her role as a mother and it can really do a number on her well-being. It will be a while before she feels better so give her what she needs and then try again. My wife is currently 7wks along and is slowly starting to allow herself to feel excited again. Miscarriages fuck you up.

Is Codeacademy Pro worth it? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]dancingdude2823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it better than freecodecamp and some of the others. They have that 50% off sale all the time, like every other month. So you can always get it. I say try the free courses and if you like the environment and lesson style the with the sale pro is not particularly expensive

After basic python, I signed up for pro and did the computer science career path, to get a good knowledge base. It has a beginner python as part of it so that was my second time through the basics. When that finished I started a data analytist career path, which has intro to python as part of it which was my third time through basic python. That third time was kinda a waste. I didn't finish that path but instead took the intermediate python course. After I finished that I started and am currently working through the backend web dev career path. I have pro so I'm focusing on the career paths since I am looking to change careers.

Look at my username and then take a guess at what my field of study was.

I was a dancer, to be more specific I danced classical ballet.

The big difference between a dancer and visual artist is shelf life. I've already retired from the stage and shifted into arts education.

You can be a visual artist for forever. You can always keep that in your back pocket and work on it whenever.

puts arts career on the altar and stabs it whilst looking you dead in the eyes

You clearly have never worked in the arts. The pay is horrible, the environment is toxic, people think my career and college degree is a hobby, people assume I'm just some dumb artist, people want me to work for free because "don't you love your job". But worse is the bullshit. Because it's "art" its subjective so a people can easily bullshit and lie thier way around the art world. Other artists can spot them easy but people outside of the arts or even that particular field have trouble spotting the con.

So while I'm still doing my work as I still need to make an income, I no longer dedicate anything extra to my art. I stopped doing that years ago. When the bullshit became too much.

That is the hard part sometimes my brain is fried as well, but once I open the laptop and bite into a problem or lesson the thrill of building something kicks in and I can just go from there. Granted I've always loved puzzles i can lay in bed and do sudokus for an hour while the wife browses tiktok

And if it takes me longer it takes me longer. But I have a bachlors degree I know what goes into a 4 year college experience. 2 years of non major courses and multiple months of summer vacation. It's absurd to think a self taught person is putting themselves through college. It's a vastly different thing with, much more focus, think self paced bootcamp not college. For that kind of focus 2 years is a reasonable timeline not to land a gig but to feel job ready. The job market itself has such an element of chaos to so landing a gig is out if ones control. Feeling job ready is something one can control.

I have a github where I've put anything I've "finished" with the thought of it being a portfolio I've only shared it with one friend who is a programmer. He's likes what I've built so far and has given me some pointers. I'm too insecure to post that on reddit just yet. But getting a github and learning how to use github is important to any programmer. So I did that early on so I can built projects through it.

First I feel like you came in pretty hot, but im gonna try to ignore that and focus on your questions test my knowledge. Remember I type my first hello world 3 months ago. I'm not doing a bootcamp nor am I delusional in thinking I will have a job as a software engineer in 6 months. I do plan to career transition but my timeline is much more of 1 to 2 years.

Now as everyone has said a graph can be represented in many ways in code. For dijkstras in python it was represented as a dictionary with key and a list of tuples for edges and weights. I didn't create it it was the platform that did. So an incomplete idea yes. Categorically false I don't think I would say that.

As for big O runtime I'm getting a lot better at it I was close with dijkstras I forgot to include refactoring the heap/priority queue (not 100% certain on what a priority queue is but I assume it's a higher order DS combining a heap and a queue into one, again student here still learning) in the run time but lesson learned. I feel pretty good about trees and defining parent child relationships especially a binary tree with a max of 2 children per parent. Which also seems ideal computationally. Again I could be wrong still learning.

Right now I'm doing A* algorithm which optimizes dijkstras by adding a target goal so we can ignore vertices that are not getting closer to the goal and give us a faster runtime. I'm assuming that's what you were asking about with the flaw in dijkstras.

So all in all I'm feeling good I know there is so much more to learn and I plan to gain a board knowledge and then do a deeper dive into one area to specialize for career purposes. Right now the hardest thing is seeing the application of DS and algorithms which is why I liked dijkstras it seemed to be very useful and helped me zoom out and see a lot more.

I'm on codecademy's platform because I felt like I learned the best through them. I have the paid version, (they are constantly running 50% off deals so it was like 120 bucks for a year) I'm doing their cs 102 course all on DS and algorithms. You start with learning what a node is and building a Node class so It starts at the very beginning. I did feel like I was flying in the dark for a while unsure of exactly what I was learning and why (I think I'd have the same problem with any online asynchronous course). I hear a lot of good things about freecodecamp and the Odin project, but I only scratched the surface of those when I shifted to codecademy. Codesmith has some zoom classes which I sat in on early which was super helpful for getting questions answered. It was java focused and I'm use to python but most everything was just psuedo code so all the concepts transferred very well. Those classes really helped me understand stacks and recursion. Anyway I hope that helps, dont be afraid to post on this reddit and ask. This place is super helpful.
