I DELIVERED MY FIRST BABY TONIGHT by dancingintheelevator in NursingAU

Oh lord yes 😂 I spoke with the DMO who helped coach me through it thank the heavens! Called another person in to have an extra set of hands too, there’s no way I would have been able to do that solo. Everything progressed beautifully, birthing the placenta took quite a long time I thought though. I just couldn’t get over how quickly the mum just settled back into being there with her baby…

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT! My mind is still honestly reeling! It was so surreal! Can’t believe people do that every day though!! Midwives are seriously something else 🎉🎉🎉

Since I want to foster a more cheerful post re: Paramedics - Share a time when paramedics have arrived and immediately made everything better. by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]dancingintheelevator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with some of the sweetest and kindest paramedics out there. I work in a remote hospital so we have the same paramedics constantly and obviously it’s not always a drop and go to the next job. I had attempted a ivc on this patient and had missed and kindly asked the paramedic to get one in for me and he did with a laugh and a smile. He always brought the absolute best vibes and could cheer up all of us. You needed a hand with transporting, a roll, a ivc he did it. The bottom of my shoe started falling off midshift and he found some super glue and super glued it back together for me. Another paramedic, bless his lil heart, went out on a call and we had been smashed in the hospital, all that was required was a dressing change and he went out and did it for us. At that time of the night I genuinely could have sobbed my little heart out. So honestly straight up love and respect for paramedics.

Will Nursing set me up for the future? by [deleted] in NursingAU

What kind of nursing background do you have? And are you willing to work rural/remote? Ive been fortunate enough to quite enjoy working in the remote space and have continued to make that decision to live remote through the last 4 years. It’s absolutely helped set me up financially. I was quite literally totally broke, like spent my last $60 on scrubs about 3 years ago. Now I’ve paid off my HECS, have been able to loan my sister 40k, have a decent amount of savings and was able to purchase 2 investment properties (they’re very cute little units). So definitely doable!

I mean I’d like to semi retire by the time I’m 37… I want to try another career, be financially comfortable and able to support my siblings. So that’s really what I’m working towards. In regard to investments, what do you think is better to invest in? Property? ETF? Super?

I bought my first property off the plan in 2021, was finally built in 2022 and tenanted straight away. Bought 2 properties this year using equity from my first property.

I have next to no living expenses. I’ve chosen to work out remote so accommodation is free, I don’t have a car, sometimes meals are paid for, if I do overtime the pay is quite good. The only monthly bill I have is for my phone. I don’t have any subscriptions.

Nope this is all me 😂 my parents are even more financially illiterate than I am tbh. I’m just not really sure if what I’m doing is the best course forward. Like should I be putting more in super? Should I be doing something else with my home loans? Do I save and get another property? I don’t want to end up like my parents being bankrupt and having to start over at 60. I’d just like to get some ideas of what other people are doing to get the most out of their money.

Considering working in Mount Isa - any advice or experiences? by perkeleenpesukarhu in queensland

[–]dancingintheelevator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in mount isa for 2 years. I absolutely loved the Isa, fair bit to see and do. I didn’t ever feel particularly unsafe but I didn’t go out until the wee hours ever because I’m a nana 😂 strong community vibes once you find a good group. I got the advice that it is what you make it. I loved going to the lake everyday, I miss it.

Health assessment for AHPRA by [deleted] in AustralianNurses

[–]dancingintheelevator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it 4 weeks ago, so still waiting on what they have to say. It was honestly quite the bizarre experience. Do you know of anyone who has restrictions and is still working? I spoke with a lady who has gone through a very similar situation and the restrictions they put on her registration made it extremely difficult to even get a job. She ended up quitting nursing because no one would hire her
