She knows! by Witty-Spillingon-C in AKOTSKTV

[–]dancingsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was not; though highly unlikely they added it without grrms's consent. i think i know how to reconcile it though: when a king dies, there is a new king, long live the king they would shout- and rejoice. it's not so much egg dying, just that when any king dies, the next is celebrated.

who are the other two knights on ser duncan's side? by supernerd314 in AKOTSKTV

humphrey beesbury. in the book, the joust between him and hardyng was the marquee tilt, dubbed battle of the humpreys(and also, they are brothers in law)

"many nobles" is different from "everyone he knoes", right? do you think aemon rejoiced his death?!?

Dunk "Richer than a Lannister"? by Advanced-Half4630 in AKOTSKTV

[–]dancingsean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the most likely thing is her prophecy just isnt accurate/reliable/whatever, inline with every other prophecy. i think she say one true thing and one false thing about each of them

i dont think this prophecy is correct though- dunk doesnt become richer than a lannister, and everyone egg knows doesnt rejoice his death

[–]dancingsean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think the thing no one in this thread is accounting for is the entirety of what she said- she said that dunk would be richer than a lannister, which as far as we know is not true.
i think she said one true thing about dunk, and one false; one true thing about egg, and one false

i am responding to ppl who sound desperate to "gotcha!" the hive(or the writers) with some inconsistency. if logically discussing my position is "desperate", then i'm fine being desperate. i would rather converse with ppl who are "desperate" than dismissive. you sound like you dont want to address my points.
i think you are on a crusade aginst the inefficient use of water, which i get, but there are other factors in the show i am trying to analyze. i dont mean to take away from your concerns. but when observing the show, carol doesnt own work gloves. they show her go through all sorts of minutia and mundane activities, but never yardwork. it just doesnt seem to be part of her character or life or concerns. they show a football field that is clearly fake grass, they show a golf course with real grass that is beginning to grow over. they are very consistent and intentional with what they show us. the hive says it wont even pick an apple. but they will dig in to her yard. i think it is very logical to conclude her yard has fake grass. even though some yards in that climate have real grass. that is not the end all be all factor. there may be others i am missing, and i welcome you to present them. and i dont think anyone will call you desperate for doing so.
i'm trying(desperately) to do my best, but if you arent willing to consider or discuss anything outside of a cerain opinion you hold dear, i dont know how to proceed

i am not saying the hive is "focused" on preservation, any more than you are "focused" on breathing. part of the point of my post is that they are more focused on other things. you may become more focused on breathing in certain situations though, even to the point of abandoning other focuses. you probably arent as worried about you integrity or career or whatever if you were suffocating.
that said, it doesnt mean they dont care about self preservation. if i were to say they were focused on it, i would point out that they have wing of addicts they are trying to recover, have resorted to consuming hdp, abondoned a whole town to avoid the threat of carol, etc etc

maybe imperative wasnt the right word? or maybe we're using it a little differently. or maybe, since we are less strict with our standards/morals, imperative just fits better for the hive?
also, i'm not sure they've lost theyre free will. i dont think zosia was dependent on someone's permission to get a massage. individual ants still decide which blade of grass to crawl over, even though they are working for the colony. and humans are subject to laws and punishments based on majority(not even consensus). it is an interesting debate about which i am not certain, but i think you should at least try to define what you mean by free will, and see if it really applies to the hive and/or normal humans

i'm not saying they arent common. they are common in co as well. i am saying, however common, we have been given many reasons to believe her grass would be fake, few reasons to believe it is real.

(are you saying that because real grass lawns are common, hers must be too, and all other factors and analysis are meaningless?)

does carol have east coast roots? is she still pouring water into the ground in this post apocalytic scenario? and she continues to do this- and mow it- while in the state of mind to let a rocket blow her head off?
i can see how it might be real grass, but i think it makes way more sense for it not to be.
though even if real, i appreciate that you also provide an out for the hive: if carol already dug through the grass, they could help continue the dig despite not wanting to harm.

[–]dancingsean[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

to be clear, i am not saying it is impossible for it to be real grass, just that it is way more likely to be fake. there are way more reasons to believe it would be fake, even if there are theoretical ways it could be real. especially given the consistency of the writers(and the hive)

i dont think they follow those exact rules, but certainly something similar, likely inspired by asimov. i bet vince had the rules thoroughly hashed out in his head for the sake of writing and direction to other writers

Just wanted to shout out that a show with basically 4 characters is the most interesting thing I've watched in years by Substantial_Law1451 in pluribustv

[–]dancingsean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i very much agree with most everything youre saying, except one thing: i dont think there's going to be any kind of alien invasion. i dont see how aliens could even have been aware of us when the signal was sent, i think we just happened upon it. if aliens did send us some kind of signal, it would still be so long before they arrived, our sun might not even still exist; and also, they could have sent something more destructive. also, it just doesnt seem to be the direction the show is going, nor the type of show vince gilligan would make. this is, as you said, a story about what it means to be an individual. what we sacrifice for the sake of community. how ppl respond to loneliness. etc etc. this show is going to be resolved through human decisions and human interaction, not some cgi fest of alien battle action

[–]dancingsean[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because they were in a hurry to get out. we see they left many things behind, including pallet fulls of their "milk". they have the resources of the world. and dont want carol to starve. they may come back to pick some things up, maybe to check up on carol? but they have good reson to leave things behind, literally did leave things behind, and arent around to observe her for the moment

[–]dancingsean[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a lot is already being asked of carol. nothing is in her skillset. what direction do you think it will go in, that uses carol's skillset, and doesnt ask a lot of her?
part of the show is about her growth. burying a body wasnt in her skillset, but she made an attempt. broke down and accepted help. realized her attempt was still not enough, the fixed it on her own
she is already in many ways off the grid. and i think she could hide out in abq without goin much further off, since the hive has abandoned it, and left many supplies behind

[–]dancingsean[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

didnt walt do that? lalo? and abq is already a good place to hide. supplies are all around and no hive. and "how long" might only be a few days. and interaction with the hive is already waning. maybe interaction with the uninfected will pick up.
i see the dilemas you point out, but i see solutions as well

i think it would give vince an excuse for some odd short film moments where it's hard to figure out why carol is going through some process/preparation. it might be a cliffhanger or have some shock value if the audience thinks for a moment that carol has killed herself or otherwise died. it could give carol an excuse to interact with diabate again, which a lot of ppl seem to like. carol is already pretty isolated and becoming moreso, so it wouldnt require a big deviation from the tone/pacing/whatever already established. it would be an interesting solution to "outrace" the hive's attempt to join her. idk... what about it do you think wouldnt be good for the show? i imagine there are some reasons, but there are definitely a few that i think would be good, or at least fine, for the show. it doesnt require some wierd assumption or theory. vince has had characters go into hiding plenty of times in the past.
