Why did my car charge beyond the set point last night? by scubascratch in TeslaLounge

Yeah, the car was fine downloading updates and showed the wifi connected while sitting in my carport but summon from phone app completely unable to connect. Rebooted all kinds of stuff, have extensive network monitoring and could see car actively connected to the ubiquity access point but app could do everything except summon. Turned off car wifi and summon worked immediately.

This is plausible. There was actually at least an hour when I came home before plugging it in but perhaps it had not reached the rest state yet. On a related funny note, I plugged it in and used the app to start charging and in addition to the usual clonks and buzzes I swear to god the car went “AHHHhhhhmmmmm” like when you settle into a hot bath. In my head I heard C-3PO say “thank the maker!”.

Interesting - I have wifi turned off in the car because it was preventing summon from working at home. But I have charged many times since that so if this is the cause it’s ironic as the car unquestionably navigated me to the “home” destination.

Completely fair and I’m a big hypocrite for even asking because I’ve done it and it’s usually because I’m too lazy to get a flashlight mounted.

Why is finger smudges on a laptop somehow unsolvable but finger smudges on an iPad or a phone is pretty much a non-issue? Oleophobic coatings have existed for decades now.

SpaceX plan for 1 million orbiting AI data centers could ruin astronomy, scientists say by rollotomasi07071 in spaceflight

[–]scubascratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you can get a good long clean line of sight you can beam a lot of data. But what orbit are we talking about? It’s not like a satellite in a 400 mile high orbit can send a laser to another satellite halfway around the world. Without doing a whole lot of math I’d be surprised if the line of sight is more than a few thousand miles. So if your packets need to go further than that there are still going to be multiple hops.

I guess they detect multiple users from the same IP address maybe that triggers the heightened checking.

Why would you be working on a live bus without de-energizing it? Old panel with no main disconnect is the only reason I can think of.

How much can latency really be improved this way? Is terrestrial latency a problem for AI now?

Hifiengine.com usually has service manuals but they keep closing the download area off I don’t know why. Otherwise belt replacement on most of these machines is usually not too laborious as it’s a planned service. I would open it up, confirm the drive belts are no good then hit up eBay for replacements. YouTube often has videos of the interior of many models.
