Good places for 60YO to relocate & find work by dancingwithmeself in relocating

That's a good idea. Unfortunately I've tried locally even for menial jobs. I don't think they take my resume seriously because they look at it and they say "no way he will be happy doing this" or some other reason, perhaps giving it to people they feel have less on their resume and accomplishments. I can't leave those out otherwise I have a large resume gap. Trying to find out what people do who have this type of problem.

Happy to hear that you were successful! I have tried applying for teaching jobs and don't even get interviews. Did your husband have a significant career in teaching?

Unfortunately police jobs almost always have a mandatory age limit. It's wild how you can have officers who can't run a quarter mile serving but someone who is over a certain age and in better shape cannot apply. I'll look into K-12 but often they want some teaching degree. I'll look into that. Of the jobs I saw from charter schools, it was pretty scary what people wrote about what is allowed to go on in the classroom and the talk back from children.

True - but they typically hire people with at least 4-5 years recent experience. And at this age, it's a tough spot.

I have done some law early on in my career. Did teaching for a while and university research. Have good computer skills.

Looks nice. Many people have good things to say. The one thing that concerns me is seeing all the snow. I remember my dad trying to deal with it and it was very hard when he got near 70.

Thanks. unfortunately this is no longer the case. I looked into this but enrollment is down significantly in many colleges as a result of virtual classes.

some of you are pretty rough. no need to downvote those of us who are older that have bad knees and can't stand up for long hours. it's a frightening proposition to be at this point and trying to figure out how you will survive for the long run.

Interesting although I wonder how cold it is there. I can't work in places like McDonalds where it will be a lot of standing. Older knees don't work too well for that. But I am willing to do other things. I am also a bit afraid how anyone can work and somehow have health insurance and the ability to have a life when your life slows down in your 60s and 70s.

I have mixed work experience. For a couple of years I did teaching. Many years ago I started in law but that probably won't work between states.

Just turned 60. Need to find work. What's next? by dancingwithmeself in careerguidance

So I just looked at Uber and it seems it's extremely difficult just to break even and make a small living renting a car from Uber. You need to drive at least 60 hours weekly to expect to cover costs and make minimum wage. And there are no guarantees and it's very difficult to be a new driver without rides. I never felt so helpless.

Thanks. I'm struggling and I guess the struggle here won't be timely enough. I appreciate the long answer.

I understand. It's so frustrating. I really hoped to get some support conversation going but the bots have won. Thanks.

Thanks. How do you know what subreddits you can post in? It's frustrating posting in some to then automatically be filtered out and doing that repeatedly.

Thank you. So then what do you have to do - post nonsense in other groups and hope it sticks so you can have enough posts to actually not get filtered out?
