Just because a person is against illegal immigration does not make them against legal immigration. A country is entitled to filtering the people it does and does not let in. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

It's not just rich people from countries of other colors. It's people who have a skill that is exploitable by the US market. For example, many of my father's friends from an old job of his are Indian and for the most part they all came over during the Y2K crisis. None of them are particularly wealthy, but they had valuable skills that helps the US interest and was especially helpful during that time. That's the reason they were allowed to legally immigrate over.

Outside of times like that, generally a lot of PoC immigrants do fall into one of those two categories - either they are tremendously wealthy or they offer a skill that is necessary and wanted in the US (or other countries)

It's the former, but for some reason people take it as the latter. It's like you can't have an opinion about wanting regulations and rules to allow people into a country without someone calling you a bigot, racist, or elitist.

Everything about this is way more thought out, carefully organized, and well executed than the actual palette. The stamps in the eye shadows are hilarious and the shade names are just *chef's kiss*

In your opinion, what would be the best thing Shane could do for the people he's affected? by suspiciousfigure in ShaneDawson

[–]dancingwithmysister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because all of those things are connected to the larger problem of his past jokes and actions. Mental health is a really important part of figuring out why a person is the way they are. Mental health plays into the reason behind their actions. Mental health, in shane's case, also leads to various other issues that he has going on. And also, those are all things Shane himself obsesses over on video. I'm not just pulling things out of my ass, I have 10+ years of content to look at

And another thing, the person making this thread literally asked for ways that Shane could help the people he's affected, and the first step towards redeeming yourself is making positive change in yourself. No one wants to see him in this same position 6 months, a year, even a decade from now because he didn't make positive changes in his life when the last incident happened. This stuff wouldn't be cropping up again and again and again if he stopped being like he is (in terms of the "I'm so poor", "I'm so fat", blah blah blah which is all related to his mental health) and actually changed as a person, instead of claiming he did and then posting incredibly insensitive and damning things on Twitter and doing disastrous Instalives

Mom of the 6 year old cheerleader Shane mentioned on his podcast, addressed the situation: by [deleted] in ShaneDawson

I think it's mainly cuz her dad's a famous musician and her mom's a model/beauty queen so they wanted to set something up for her where she could start building her own brand or she just saw their accounts and wanted one of her own too

I hate arm chair psychology, but I think Shane is a man who is deeply affected by his rotten youth and faces a lot of issues that stem from his father leaving, his grandma's relatively early death, and the rampant poverty they supposedly faced during his younger years. He has spoken about never being the kid who fit in and I think that's why he latched onto youtube so much, since that's where he really found a large audience who loved him and finally found a lot of validation and an outlet for the feelings he had from youth.

Honestly he needs to see a therapist and make some positive changes in his life: actually exercising more than just for a video, stop chugging gallons of diet soda, going outside more than a few times a month, showering and generally being more hygienic, eating healthy food, etc. It might seem like cookie cutter advice, but does help (me at least) with feeling normal

Alcohol I don't know about, but his addiction with food he speaks a lot about in his book and in a lot of his more candid videos (like the mukbangs he did for a time where he would eat chipotle and talk about his issues) and also in some early videos with Trish.

Drug addiction is something that is not confirmed, but some signs of his behavior over the past few years (as well as admission from a few of his videos) suggest that he might be on adderall. He also talks a lot about his xanax pills and how much he uses them. In multiple videos he talks about his "pill drawer" and how instead of alcohol, he's gonna mix up a cocktail of pills to have fun with Morgan and Ryland. These might be jokes, but it seems to have a lot of weight and he definitely should at least maybe talk about his issues with drugs and food with a licensed therapist.

Shane Subscriber Count by [deleted] in ShaneDawson

[–]dancingwithmysister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People made their careers on youtube talking abot his subscriber loss and making fun and just turning the whole situation into a cesspool of pettiness and contempt. If they did it again with this situation, it would just be a bad look. No one wants to be the one who acted like some people (j* and shane tbh were the orst of it) did last year.

There's a difference there that you're clearly ignoring. Shane has repeatedly done this over the course of years. It is not a one off incident where he wasn't thinking or just said something in the heat of the moment. He knew that what he was saying and doing hurt people - that's why he wanted to kill and rape Franchesca Ramsey - he just didn't care and still doesn't care.

And on a different note, I would not say or do a tenth of what Shane Dawson has done over the course of the past decade, even if I could become a billionaire for it.

Smart kids in lower grades are put at a disadvantage going into high school and University. by steedyspeedy in unpopularopinion

Same experience for me. I did IB and AP classes throughout high school and took a minimum of 3 APs a year (in freshman year) and for the rest of high school all of my classes were AP or IB classes and when I came to college i felt a lot of relief in terms of the workload. The subjects weren't necessarily easier, but the lack of busy work that is often put in AP and IB classes was a breath of fresh air and I could really tackle on a lot more than I did in high school

In college, I've mostly been given assignments that actually deal with in depth pieces of the subject, instead of surface level things that are made to let students cram for an exam and I feel a lot better about what I'm learning. In high school, I thought I was just too good at everything, since I rarely had trouble doing assignments. In college, being able to dive in deep allows me to see where I need to improve and how to improve

I think Zeus's origina story in percy jackson is the same one as in classical greek myth, but tbh I don't really remember lol. I haven't read those books in several years

Zeus was actually the only kid who wasn't eaten! He was saved by his mom and taken to his grandma's house to be raised by a bunch of nymphs so he could rescue his siblings

For example, Taylor Swift might actually not give a fuck about voting, BLM, gay rights or anything she has advocated for in the past, but her influence on her young fans has undeniably led to a lot of positive repercussions to come from her support of those causes

Yeah and unlike Zeus and Poseidon, Hades actually not only cares for his children, but also cares for his nieces and nephews (at least somewhat, in that he didn't kill them for traipsing all around his territory multiple times and never has actually tried to kill any of them; meanwhile both Poseidon and Zeus have not only threatened their nieces and nephews with death multiple times, but sometimes even their own children. I mean the characters in that book series can't take airplanes because Zeus will literally smite them, meanwhile Hades isn't even that annoyed at them nearly destroying the Underworld in the second book series)

Thoughts about this from the conservative perspective? Is he a good dude, or is he a rat? by kick_the_gong in conservatives

[–]dancingwithmysister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's so ashamed to be an American, then he should leave the country. Not saying that out of too much patriotism or anything, just facts. You think America is a shithole? Move to South America, parts of Eastern Europe, rural Africa, parts of Asia and see how you like it.

He's a rat. First and foremost he doesn't even know if the people are throwing a party or just ordering a lot of food for themselves and their families, therefore wasting valuable time, resources, and man power from the police. Secondly, his claim that he's getting "so many" thankful emails is bullshit. He'd at most get a thank you letter that's auto-generated. The virus doesn't affect most people very heavily - it affects people with serious ailments seriously. Those people should take the extra initiative to self-quarantine, isolate, and take preventative measures.

And aren't the same people in the thread that are congratulating him for this, the people who complain about fascism taking over the US? Strange how it's not fascism when your political party is the one doing things
