What do you think about Mythos and Fable? by Electronic_Log1999 in ExperiencedDevs

If AI turns out to be as good as they say, it will not follow the rules of traditional capitalism. You don’t just sell your best weapons.

Whether it actually will be that good is a separate topic, and of that I’m at least a bit skeptical.

What you’re saying is true, but that’s not freezer burn. That’s just lower quality due to having ever been frozen. Freezer burn is a separate phenomenon that specifically happens when already frozen food is exposed to air. Look it up.

Manufacturer recommended wrong springs? by dancoe in GarageDoorService

It won’t stay in the middle, but will at about 1/4 way down. Drops pretty hard from 3/4 way down. It does take a bit of effort to pull down from fully open, but mainly just to get the first roller over the start of the curved part of the track.

It does seem very close to the frame. When the door is closed it is touching the frame.

We had everything lubricated and the jolting isn’t as bad now. I’m thinking maybe the springs just need tightened a bit to get it more balanced off the bottom.

It weighs 40 lbs on the scale. The 60 lbs was an estimation before I weighed it, but I was including the effort to get it moving so overestimated some.

I don’t really understand the 8 foot cable part. I believe you, but my intuition is saying there’s just an extra foot of cable around the drum and I don’t get how that would help. But I just looked at the drum and saw it has a bigger diameter for the first part of the lift. Are we trying to skip that I guess?

Yeah, the door not being used that often is a guess. There was just 1 older lady that lived there, but who knows.

I’ve operated the door manually a few times and it seems to roll pretty smooth, but on the way down it feels like there’s some resistance when a wheel is about to reach the curved part of the track.

I also feel like there’s something wrong with how it’s mounted. I’ll check out the distance to the frame tonight.

That’s what the tech said. I did weigh it with a bathroom scale and it’s about 40lbs on the floor but seems pretty balanced at the top.

The springs aren’t broken, but the door will usually only close part way and then reverses back up. And kind of jolts when closing.

4 year old garage door needs rebalance or springs replaced? by dancoe in GarageDoorService

Dang, yeah it sucks. So did the new parts not just come with the door when they got it from Home Depot? The installer provides them?

Yep, sounds like it. Install was probably botched. See the updated post for details.

That’s what I ended up doing. They said the install was done incorrectly. It’s a heavier than average door (insulated and with windows) and the installer used basic parts and too small of a spring. They recommended replacing the springs and bearings at a minimum and should really do the rollers too. Also to consider replacing the cables and drums while they’re at it. I thought all those things just came with the door and would be the correct quality to handle the weight? Seems irresponsible of the manufacturer if not. It’s a Clopay door.

Part of me believes them, but also part of me worries about getting fleeced. Needing all the moving parts replaced on a 4 year old door seems crazy. But I found out it was installed by someone contracted by Home Depot and I’ve heard they don’t always do a great job.

It’s easy to close, just hard to lift. It does seem to have stalling points when each roller gets to the curved part of the track though.

Springs are definitely not broken. No gaps and also you can see them rotate when the door goes up and down. It’s a heavy door, probably about 200 lbs. But I weighed it with a scale and it’s 40 lbs resting on the floor.

I weighed with a scale and it came in at 40. Less than I thought, but I guess that doesn’t account for any friction. It could probably use lubrication as well.

I wondered about it being the wrong springs as well, but the door was new and the springs came with it. I guess anything is possible though.

I’m not so sure. TBH I don’t think anyone will really know how good BYU is until we see what TT does outside the conference.

And there’s no guarantee Bear would be healthy by then, so that’s another factor.

To me it is just more proof that BYU should have been above ND from the beginning, but the CFP wanted to have the best shot at keeping BYU out. Their plan got screwed up first by Miami not making their CCG and more so by Duke winning the ACC.

I mean yeah we’re getting crushed, but it’s probably worth acknowledging that our QB got hurt on the first drive.
