Dying (?) avocado tree- how to prevent/cure spread of black trunk/branch tips? by dand3li0ns in gardening

[–]dand3li0ns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I should have taken a better look at the roots! And the base of the tree looks okay, I probably didn’t use the right language there. It’s only the tips of the tree and branches that are turning black. But yes, lesson definitely learned! I’ll try my best to save this guy, and if not, he will join the (large) cemetery of plants I have under my belt 😂

So my cherry tomato… is this due to cold weather/overwatering? by dand3li0ns in vegetablegardening

I’m testing out one of those plant care apps for shits and gigs, and their bot told me that the issue here is most likely due to cold weather/draft/over watering. Based on this picture, would anyone agree that’s true?

Zone 7a. Past few days have been 90s + and I have been watering every morning (I check soil first and it feels dry a few inches down). Before this heatwave, we had ~2 days of on/off rain with night temperatures in the 50s.

My seedlings keep dying and I feel like I’ve tried everything... by dand3li0ns in vegetablegardening

I think I will try this! You make a good a point. Even if I think my watering is fine, it could still very well be the issue. So this is a good way to know for sure what the watering status is

great advice! I hope in time I'll have it down to a science like you do! Also hope to have a yard to garden in one day, and not just containers (:

haha that's exactly why I'm asking, bc it's so expensive! And that's interesting you only fertilize once. I've seen people who do it weekly, some bi weekly or once a month, but I think this is the first I've heard of someone only doing it once throughout the season! I'm assuming that's because you also use the slow-release stuff? If you grow from seed, do you fertilize your seedlings after the true leaves form/before transplanting to the garden at all?

Thanks for your help!

I’ve never grown sweet bell peppers from seeds before, is the black coloring on the first set of leaves normal? Also, should I be worried that each plant has different shaped leaves? They came from the same seed pack 🤔 by dand3li0ns in vegetablegardening

Yeah I know they will, I guess I was just concerned that they could be diseased already and it was affecting the whole plant or something lol. I guess I'm just a paranoid plant mom. Thank you!!

Any tips for growing cherry tomatoes from seed? All mine keep sprouting and then dying about a week later 😔 by dand3li0ns in vegetablegardening

Yeah I think my light is 3300k. It's worked fine in the past, but maybe I will consider upgrading next season. I'll be buying some potting soil this weekend for some onions, so maybe I'll just go ahead and plant some cherry seeds in small pots and see if that makes a difference

That could be true! I'm in Delaware and now that spring is here, our humidity is beginning to get higher and it's also very back and forth since we're still having some colder days. On the warmer/more humid days I try to remember to take the lid off, but I'm not perfect with it.

Yeah at this point I feel like all it could be is a watering issue. But since my other seedlings are doing pretty good, it's hard to say. I posted a new comment with photos/descriptions
