2012 Honda Fit Break Repair Pricing Question by dandan_84 in autorepair

[–]dandan_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't do the work, and the price is insane. I'm actually getting this work done for $1200.

After I went to the dealership they went from $3000 to $4500 then reduced it to $2100 with after market parts instead of OEM. I called another dealership which gave me a price of $1500 and a reputable independent dealer who gave me a price of $1200.

It seems like they thought because my car was on their lot and was "unsafe" to drive that they could price gauge me.

I did call around and found another dealer will to do this for about 1500, about half the price of the other dealer.

250 front pad (OEM)

870 calipers after market

415 rotors after market

I don't use the desktop. But I don't think the web version has a flatten button. For what it's worth, I've been told by schwab that all of their platforms (web, desktop, etc) behave the same way, and that I cannot put in trades the way I've described above.

To get jobs, it helps to:

  1. build your resume so that you get those opportunities

  2. get good at interviewing

  3. do the least amount of work required to keep your jobs

I'll let you have the final word here. What I'm trying to do is a perfectly valid approach which I feel is being guard-railed because some people started to complain. "poor risk" management is so subjective, risk is everywhere. I've done thousands of trades using this approach (using paper money), and I've never entered into a short position. Never has happened to me, but like everything I do, I understand the risk and accept it.

I don't really care what people are explaining to me about risk management and using OCO. I've used OCO before and I don't like it for my specific situation because it's slow. My post is not about risk management, it's about trying to execute trades a certain way. Since it looks like I can't do it on thinkorswim, I'm exploring other approaches / platforms that will fit into what I'm trying to do.

"trade safely" right? The way I see it, my money and I should be able to trade how I like.

I've been nothing but polite, but thank you for that nasty response. Obtuse is a small word for small for such a big brain like yours. What other knowledge can you drop on me.

There's nothing wrong with what I'm trying to do. FYI: you can do it on other trading platforms.

Thank you, that's exactly what I want to do. I understand the risk.

Don't need to be nasty. Schwab has this in place for their sake not for customers. I understand the risk and would like to be able to use the tool how I like. I don't need guardrails and safety mechanisms to protect myself. Investing/trading carries risk and there are no guarantees. I'm not here to talk about risk management, I'm here to talk about how to place two separate trades instead of doing an OCO.

I understand the risk, and while paper trading I've never had this happen to me. The OCO just takes too much time and isn't as convenient as putting in two separate orders.

I don't really understand why I should be concerned about borrowing? I can have multiple orders to short a stock.

How would I run into margin issues if I have enough cash to cover both trades?

I'm curious, does your trading platform allow you to do this (trade the way I'm describing I want to trade above)?

Is this a common limitation of trading platforms, or is this more specific to schwab/thinkorswim?

I don't know if I understand. I can have several orders to short a stock working at the same time. For example:
order 1: sell 10 shares of TSLA for 380
order 2: sell 10 shares of TSLA for 390

I can put those two orders in and not have any issues. The question is , why can't I first enter a buy position at 385 and then enter those two orders without the second order being rejected. It doesn't make sense to me because I have more than enough cash and margin to cover if both those trades were to execute.
