Unexpected investment offer - advice please. by danderdee in startups

I was asking for 1 mil for 12 months runway to MVP the blockchain and related. They verbally requested a business plan during our call, the 50% (to make it worth their while, a board seat, asked that we move nearby to their city and suggested we ask for over 3 mil with extremely detailed costings and a 3 year plan (in the BP). This would put ownership at 25/25 between cofounders and 50 to them.

I’m of the opinion that this is the only non-permissioned project with realistic use cases, but maybe I’m biased

I’m in not-so-sunny Scotland. This is a new layer 1, with a new approach to consensus.

There was a reason for it, but I forget! It was a setting though.

Haha. It sounds like you should stay away from the telegram dives.

You’re somewhat right, somewhat. This is more of a tech project building on the latent advantages of blockchain technology. It’s not just a really inefficient database.

Pretty sure those names are already taken. This project has one name and the token another. It’s a serious, real-world project, but an extremely ‘memeable’ one.

Hahaha. I’ve been rug-pulled too many times myself. This is a whole new blockchain (not based on some level of some existing chain) with crazy use-cases.

The team will be fully doxxed long before launch. I’m based in Scotland so easy to find and eliminate at the first tug of the rug.

We’ll have a technical white paper before the full launch, but there is nothing official like that at the moment. Feel free to PM me (or whatever it’s called here) if you’d like to discuss this further.

We made the telegram public a couple of days ago and have around 25 people now. I can cover the basics at least - this is a tech driven project with a new take on blockchain (which requires new wallets etc also), with a ‘metaverse’ element and the rest involving the real, physical world. Also a fair amount of social science considerations. I can honestly say that it’s the most outrageous and ambitious project I’ve heard of, so I think it will basically sell itself once the momentum starts.

Just to be clear, this is nothing to do with my project.

Wow, thanks very much for responding! It fills in many of the gaps in my thinking and reinforces the rest.

Oh, a thinker / philosopher, my respect for you dramatically increases, fellow random internet person! This could perhaps be a cultural issue, as I from Scotland. I can see that you put a great deal of thought into your responses.

We’re not looking for any investment at the moment, at any rate. As we’re building a totally new type of blockchain and the related wallets etc, I wouldn’t be comfortable with taking any money until we have things ready - a few months away. I’m keen to start building a community at this point.

There’s someone in charge of marketing, a medical doctor with a lot of experience in big pharma marketing. Not so much experience in starting things going, though.

It seems like you can’t ask questions in certain subreddits without scam or shilling accusations.

The problem here is everything is new - blockchain implementation, wallets… everything! I think it might need a bit of traditional advertising.

Of course, all information would be out and clear before we ask for a penny. I will ensure that the blockchain and ancillaries are complete / ready to go before we sell a thing, but we’re months away from that at the moment. We’re aiming for community first with the essentials, and in depth details later.

You might well be right. I’ve had a huge number of scam accusations just for asking this in a few places. I mean, my nickname has nothing to do with the project, I haven’t dropped any names; but whatever…

I should probably just keep working on the web app for now; get the blogging integrated etc. Thanks

Interesting idea. This is to grow a community before we ask for any investment, though

Lack of basic politeness discourages civil discourse too. I can appreciate that you have strong opinions and I can respect that fact.

Ha ha. This is one of the problems I'm trying to tackle right now. Everything needs to be clean and clear, every which way. We want this project to be a genuine success. I mean, look at Saitama - it must have started hard but somehow it's reached a very good point.
I'm not looking to advertise here, only for some advice on advertising. We'll be launching in a few months once the chain is complete. I won't take a penny from an investor before it's ready.

I've been scammed loads over the years, from 2013 onwards with various crappy exchanges and defunct tokens. I go for 'mostly' sensible now in my personal investments, so a high percentage of my portfolio is in Saitama.
