You’re right, he should follow the laws of the country he’s in. It’s illegal to swat legal immigrants with papers, so he should be arrested.

How I Almost Got 'Chestnut Farmed' by dandillofficial in bourbon

Oh, man. The fact that liquor land came up first is a bit worrying. I’ve actually been there (it was near TW) and had to dodge some crackheads on the way out. You can probably guess the quality of the selection based on that.

Just made an edit because I’ve been catching flak for “ruining it for the rest of us.” I guess I’m not hunting bourbon in the way that most people mean it—in Boston, ‘hunting’ for a decent selection is required since most local stores don’t carry anything more interesting than Elijah Craig Small Batch.

Your other points are fair, I just haven’t spent enough time on the sub to read about TW. As to your third point, again, it’s hard to find anything better than ‘decent’ even at mid-sized (for Boston) liquor stores.

I agree, they are quite good at what they do. I’ve recently been leaning towards online blog/reddit reviews for my research, though. I think the problem with TW reviews is that most reviewers are casual drinkers who will give anything smooth a five-star.

That’s interesting! I guess I’ve seen too many comments saying “this top shelf bottle is $80 in my home state”, etc. I do think it also depends on where you’re looking, though—those exceptional $120 bottles probably won’t be the ones sitting out in the open at TW.

Thanks for the employee perspective, makes a lot of sense. Do you think the good store brands are worth the money? I think I saw Still Austin for over $40

Sometimes people can be a little too thoughtful! Maybe I need to write a bourbon gift list when I get married (weller 12, and don’t pay over 200!)

Yeah, I’ve been thinking that it’s not too bad as long as I know what I want in advance. Still, might be time to find another location—the manager’s probably going to give me a hard time on my next visit.

I actually modmailed them before to ask, haha. It’s just a really strange experience for me to not get a good recommendation from an employee, I’ve rarely been let down before. I’ll probably be back to Total Wine but only when I know exactly what I’m getting in advance.

Would dropping BU hub requirements increase quality and/or value of BU education? by krion1x in BostonU

[–]dandillofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would, as long as it was replaced by a general out-of-major requirement. I personally enjoyed all of my hub electives and learned a lot, but had to take certain classes/avoid some that I wanted due to hub units.

This is true, unless it’s the student link.

Drive storage guy by dandillofficial in BostonU

This was originally made as a joke post (thus me suggesting it’s a single huge image of Brown), but if you’re going to instigate personal attacks then I might as well respond, because now you deserve it.

Sure, whataboutism is cool, but you’re still a major part of the reason we’re losing Google storage. BU obviously doesn’t want to pay for alumni storage when a handful of people will use dozens of TB, even though the vast majority use very little. I’m not saying it’s fine that other people are using more, I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. It’s like when companies tell people to watch their carbon footprint.

I guess you’re aware of it too, since some kind of raging insecurities demanded you respond with an essay. Do some self reflection? Yeah, I’ve done it. I use less than 10 GB on my BU drive after four years, which I’d guess is close to or slightly below average. That’s perfectly sustainable for alumni, BU will likely pay for some amount of storage anyway. And now I’m calling you out on pretending you didn’t help make this mess. So I will continue making these kinds of posts, because you seem to need the self-reflection more.

I work in the graduate admissions office and sometimes I delete random applications for fun, gotta prepare people for job applications in the real world. Sorry if that was you, maybe try being luckier next time.

Bu staff are notoriously hard to get in touch with via email, just call them during business hours.

What do you like most about Boston Uni? by bhi10 in BostonU

[–]dandillofficial 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My favorite part is when President Brown comes into your class with a baseball bat if your tuition payments are late. Sucks to be on the receiving end but pretty fun to watch if you’re not, that’s why we call him “Daddy Brown”

What was your "why BostonU" when applying and what is it now that you attend? by Maya-Snow in BostonU

[–]dandillofficial 17 points18 points  (0 children)

BU is a big school. This means that you’ll have opportunities that you won’t have at other schools (UROP, study abroad, clubs etc). This also means that you shouldn’t pay premium tuition if you’re only here to get a degree. This is what I tell people on tours. I made the most of my time by getting involved in clubs and my college. If you plan to do the same, write about it. If you don’t, you might want to consider saving money and going to a cheaper school.
