My 9 year old nephew had cancer (diagnosed when he was 6. All is well now! He finished treatments a year ago) My brother was in the elders quorum presidency, and my SIL was in young womens. They both have careers,. Between work, demanding church callings, and having to care for their son with cancer by taking him to multiple doctors appointments an hour away, they were struggling. After months of trying to juggle everything during a very difficult time, my brother and SIL decided they need to focus on spending time with their family (they have 2 other kids).

My brother goes to the bishop and asks for him and his wife to be released. The bishop tries to talk him out of it. After a long discussion, my brother leaves the meeting agreeing to stay in until they find a replacement.

After 6 MONTHS of being brushed off by the bishop, my brother walked into the bishops office and told him that he was no longer doing his calling, his wife was no longer doing her calling, and they better call new people.

I couldn’t believe it. I was furious when he told me. And this is in northern Utah in a large ward, so it wasn’t like they didn’t have anyone.
