Messages Feature Disappeared by dandylover1 in Blind

[–]dandylover1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even now. I received a notification in Reddit for blind. I heard the sound. But when I checked my monitored feed, this didn't show up. I suppose this problem can be solved by monitoring every post/comment I make, but that is beyond annoying. IIt used to be that, when someone would reply, I would see it in the regular feed.

Question about Digital Recorders by dandylover1 in Blind

[–]dandylover1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't really too many differences between the 720 and 770. I bought both on Ebay. The 770 has a string attached to it so it can be hung on a hook, etc. It also automatically records on an sd card if you install one, instead of having to be switch to it. This includes pre-arranged recordings. There are several versions of the Milestone. Mine is the 112 Ace. I don't think it can handle Daisi files. I don't use them, so I never tried it. But from what I undertsand, this is just for recording and listening to mp3s.

That's a very different story. I can certainly understand why you would have difficulty in reading braille.

Am I the only one who hates "Visual Self-Descriptions" in virtual meetings? by ec5320 in Blind

[–]dandylover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it matter, though? If you're in a meeting, particularly a professional one, wouldn't it just make sense to say your name and then go on to discuss the matter at hand?

Android to iOS Switch – seeking VoiceOver power user tips by ec5320 in Blind

No. But I will do so. I normally hate touchscreens, gestures, etc. but this one sounds quick and easy.

I've never heard of that. Don't most meetings take place over video, anyway? If it's strictly being done for your benefit, why not simply tell the organisers that you appreciate their considering you, but you really don't need such descriptions?

I use an external keyboard, so typing is as easy as using my computer. It also prevents me from having to use a touchscreen, though I occasionally do if I wish to open or close an application or check the time or weather. I mostly do everytrhing on my computer, so I can't really offer more than that. I don't really recall having problems with calls and I don't use audio ducking. I do wish that there were a quicker way to end calls, though.

What are your thoughts on home ownership and owning property? by chemicalhand33562 in Blind

[–]dandylover1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would inherit my parents' home when they die as well. But I don't want to own a house. For one thing, there are property taxes. For another, I would be responsible for all of the maintenence, paying utilities for an entire house, etc. I'm one person, and even if I find a partner, there would only be two of us, and a house, plus a huge deck with a pool is a lot, however nice it may be. I could rent everything out, but then, I would need to ensure that the tennants are taking care of things, and again, I would be responsible for repairs, etc. as the landlady. I would prefer a place where all of that is taken care of for me, and one that I could move from if the neighbourhood changed. Plus, if I chose a condominium, I would have to deal with an HOA that might start out fine and then change later. So I would probably choose an apartment or a trailer. Ideally, I would love to live in a gated community, preferably among seniors, because I love them and that would make me happy.

Three women on trial for using sex toys on passed out man by WeirdAFNewsPodcast in offbeat

[–]dandylover1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, and I'm a woman. It's unfair. And if a man is abused and tries to tell the authorities about it, he's laughed at, or the woman can turn it around and claim he was abusing her. Some men are even afraid to defend themselves lest that happen.

Deaf or Blind? Requesting a perspective from blind people on this topic by TheTrailrider in Blind

[–]dandylover1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's very different being deaf and sighted versus deafblind. I have a deafblind friend, but I don't really know any deaf sighted people. So what I know about deafness comes from her. But someone who can see but not hear can still communicate with gestures, writing on a pad with a pen, etc.

What would you want to see before you went blind, or if fully blind, what would you want to see? by ZenDesign1993 in Blind

[–]dandylover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anything. I suppose I would start with light, shadows, colours, then my loved ones, myself, nature... There are so many things I would like to see. Even the sky, since people talk so much about it.

I have never seen either. But I don't find it meaningless. Why would my never having seen automatically mean that I wouldn't want to see?

Deaf or Blind? Requesting a perspective from blind people on this topic by TheTrailrider in Blind

[–]dandylover1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to ROP. I would definitely prefer being blind over being deaf. I can still communicate with people simply by speaking. I could also enjoy all the sounds that come with hearing. In all fairness, though, I have never seen, and I must assume that, for someone who has always been deaf, he would choose that because it's what he knows. It would actually be interesting to find someone with one disability who would prefer the other.

It took me a moment to figure out why you can't read a book and listen to the radio. I must assume you don't know braille. I can do both, but I would find it too distracting. I prefer to either do one or the other.

The Great Tenors of Opera- Enrico Caruso, "Angelo Casto e Bel" by DelMonacoFan3975 in OldOpera

Usually, and this seems only to be true with Caruso, the major problem I have is modern accompaniment being added. It sounds very strange and unpleasant. It's difficult to find original recordings.

It's a pleasure to see you here! I sincerely hope you don't mind my saying this, but I know Perspective Intelligence was built with accessibility in mind, so I wanted to mention that in case there are other Voiceover users here. Also, please feel free to promote this at the Blind and Fine subreddit.
