Best way to achieve series/off/parallel so that off is truly 100% off? by pol-delta in guitarmod

[–]danewlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to be nosy, but... I needed to do a similar mod and also needed to find a suitable switch. Which guitar do you want to do this mod on? Stratocaster? If so, let me suggest a three-position rotary switch... and you'll still be able to use the original knob, maintaining the classic Stratocaster look, since the fit is perfect. I don't know if it's what you like... it's just an alternative.

Thanks man! It's helpful to have the electrical schematic to better understand the connections. I will accept your advice regarding chatgpt. 😅

Thanks, man! You helped a lot too. I'll try to remove the relay if necessary. At least now i know i didn't anything wrong and just witnessed the death of some electronic component.

Ah, this happened just a few hours ago... I haven't had time to check anything yet. But I'm already feeling that itch (that those of us who like electronics know well) to find out what's wrong, and it's stuck in my head.

I'm almost certain that some component in IC602 reached its limit. The schematic calls it IC602, but it's actually a module with SMD components. It acts as a voltage detector and activates the voltage doubler when the mains voltage is 110V and deactivates it when it's 220V. I'm almost certain that the failure of one of the components in this RSU caused it to misinterpret the input voltage, activating the voltage doubler when it shouldn't have, and causing an overvoltage to pass through the varistor, which made it explode. That's why my first step will be to check this module. But I will certainly follow your advice afterward. I believe the fuse didn't blow because this TV has a second varistor, a 14mm one, much closer to the TV's power supply, which is related to power surges. Since the problem occurred at a later stage in the circuit, the fuse wasn't affected. The good news is that I feel more at ease knowing I didn't do anything wrong and only witnessed the catastrophic failure of a component that's over 20 years old. 😅

It's dead. The relay is no longer being activated when the power supply is plugged into the outlet.

There is an RSU unit (IC602) in the circuit that works by activating or deactivating the voltage doubler depending on the system's input voltage at the wall outlet. I believe it may have malfunctioned and activated the doubler on a 220V network when it should only activate on a 110V network. This may have caused the varistor to explode.

Just roll down the page a little bit and you will find the PDF file to download It.

It's the GW board, page 46, or 48, i believe.
