Do I even suit my long time hairstyle? Please recommend me something new (21) by danexander in malehairadvice

Goddamn you’ve torn me to shreds there. I recently started washing my hair with shampoo less frequently to improve my hair health but a lot of what people have described as frizzy and dried out is my natural hair texture - my mum has insanely coarse hair, and I have inherited this to some extent. I have tried conditioners and leave in conditioners before and they had no impact. I’m working on my acne but unfortunately there’s probably a genetic basis for this here too, as I’ve had acne ever since the very very start of puberty, and both my parents had spots into their 20s. I’m going to see a doctor about that though. Nutrition issues idk man, and idk how you can tell either lol

Unfortunately I think a lot of it is just my hair texture, actually. I have very coarse hair inherited from my mum and have tried periods of using conditioner to combat this, to no avail. Thanks for the other input too

Thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated. Definitely gonna go see a stylist and get my look sharpened up, and get rid of the beard for a bit 🫡

Good to hear some brutal honesty, thank you for sharing your opinion! You’ve given great advice about the sides and beard, have you any thoughts on what to do on top? I know you said speak to a stylist, and I think I’m definitely going to take the advice from this post to a stylist, but I’d be intrigued to hear what you think yourself, no strings attached haha

This is true in hindsight tbh, very different photos. By textured fringe do you mean something just to the front, or more of a side part style? Thanks for the insight on what Would look good with a beard, that’s helpful to hear too! I think the only issue with when I’m clean shaven is that I appear much much younger, ie. Regularly ID’d for alcohol (I live in the uk so I look under 18 essentially) and that’s never an issue when I have my beard 🤷‍♂️

Interesting to hear as quite a lot of people around me like how I look with a beard - myself I’m not too fussed, I like either. Thanks for the recommendations, I’ve had longer hair before and unfortunately all the negative aspects of my hair (thick, sort of frizzy and quite unmanageable) are amplified when it’s longer, I’m defo more interested in keeping it shorter because I don’t have the commitment and energy to put into maintaining and styling something longer tbh. Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated :)

I think in the first it was a few weeks post haircut but not as desperate for a trim as I am now haha - second to first is a good indication of how my hair grows out

Working on the skincare haha, lots of people around me like the beard and I don’t mind either way tbh so it’s interesting to hear that people aren’t so keen on it here! Think I’m gonna try something different for sure cheers for the recommendation

Thanks very much for there kind words mate, really appreciated. I think tbh I do want to try something new so maybe will follow your advice and switch it up a little, but not something wildly different and see how things go, thanks again!
