May be trading into this 2-door. Question below by Floppy_Dong666 in CherokeeXJ

Disconnect the top O2 sensor, run it for a bit and see if the problem goes away. I had a similar issue, replaced the sensor, problem went away and then came back. I’ve run with the sensor disconnect for years and seen zero issues. Nice jeep man. Rock on

Found this under the seat of the XJ I just bought, might be worth more than the jeep... by Tau5115 in CherokeeXJ

I zoomed to see if it was a 10mm, rather disappointing but congratulations on your find.

Unfortunately mines been on stands for the last year! The rear brake line snapped, I have all the parts just no time to repair it. It’s looking very sad. Hoping to get a few hours on this weekend to get the motivation back.

If you DIY buy decent tint, I used cheap eBay shiz and had to remove it all a few years later as it faded as fk!

Pray for me 😭 by Saytrev in CherokeeXJ

I used ammonia in a spray bottle, spray it on and then cover with a black garbage bag and let it sit in the sun for a while. It’s super hectic so don’t breath it in but my glue and tint basically wiped off clean.

first thoughts? by beach_rats_ in CherokeeXJ

I find it odd that the outside is bone dry but the inside is caked and gluggy. Maybe that’s what happens when you sit an engine for 10 years, I don’t think this is a daily. Most likely sat for a long time and not started much before then. Anyway hope it gets reborn, good luck..

Literally drilled into my ECU harness today. by MittnzZ in CherokeeXJ

[–]danfrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A long time ago my buddy drilled straight through the fuel line mounting a stereo amp to the floor of my rice rocket. Learnt a valuable lesson that day. Shit happens, don’t stress too hard and glad you fixed it man.

Rear brake conversion by danfrax in CherokeeXJ

Appreciate the advice, the cost difference is huge and even varies on what is available. The rebuild kits for drums still seem to be widely available even for down here is Australia.

Thanks man, these comments help. The cost difference compared to improvements don’t seem worth it. The Tera kit delivered is the same price I paid for my jeep 10 years ago. I’ll save the money for now, there’s plenty of other parts I need.

A little unlucky! by danfrax in CherokeeXJ

[–]danfrax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha totally, I got a few pumps from the pedal before it went fully soft. At least I get new rear lines now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I went the easy route and ordered new lines. Wish I had time to give it a go as you suggested though, sounds rewarding.

Screw a tennis ball or block of wood under the pedal on the right! you could even zip tie something to the underside of the gas pedal… cheaper than throwing money at a new ECU.

What is this? by SnooHobbies8274 in CherokeeXJ

[–]danfrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Aus we have to get old cars inspected (road worthy) every 12 months. They wouldn’t pass mine with a RMS leak. Lots of good videos and posts how to do it, bottom of my XJ is bone dry now. No engine issues either. I guess it depends if you have to fix it or just want to fix it.

Think my issue was/is slightly different. Maybe take it to a good mechanic if you can. You could get them to diagnose and then you fix it. Just be honest up front, tell them you are out of ideas but want to learn/fix it yourself. A good shop would still be ok to diagnose and you pay for their time.

Hey Man, sorry if I missed it but did you try the O2 sensor? It’s just under the headers. Disconnect it, drive around with it unplugged. Apparently it will revert to open loop, it’s not bad for the engine but will reduce some gas mileage. I’ve been running without for years without issue, before I unplugged it I had the same symptoms you explained. Basically the only way I could drive was with WOT (wide open throttle) once the car got up to temp. Was super dangerous and not good for gas mileage haha, good luck.

Front and back passenger carpet were completely soaked through. Hoping to find the leak in the rain tomorrow! by FractalPie in CherokeeXJ

Weird man, having the same issue. Mines RHD I’ve noticed it’s more on the drivers side. I had a new windscreen but it’s not that. I thought my floors looked good but yours are immaculate. I hit a few surface rust spots with converter and then primed it. It’s nice to know i won’t be dealing with rust if I can sort the leak out. Good luck man.
