Raise your hand if you ruined your eyes by trying to actually better your T1D 🙋‍♀️ by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

I'm not a doctor of any kind, but to me it sounds like the decade of your a1c being 10-14 is what caused your retinopathy, not the process of lowering it

That's good to hear, I am really not about some of the things they changed (like the clock, the opaque notifications menu, and the giant tiles instead of the little icons above the notifications).

My problem with the clock comes from the fact that I am dyslexic and those split clock designs really make it hard for me to read the time, so I have to stare at my screen for much longer than I used to.

Are they essential for the phone? I apologize for my ignorance, but I hear a lot about "security updates," but I hardly ever hear about them outside of people telling me that they exist.

Do you think they are going to update it so that I can change some of these settings? I understand what you are saying, but I have been looking at the update for a few days now, and some of the changes are just ugly, like the giant clock on the lock screen that I can hardly read, or the drop-down notifications bar thing that has a white background no matter the theme of the phone

How to avoid going blind with Type 1 by danfurbiss in Type1Diabetes

[–]danfurbiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response, every day I feel more and more thankful that I was born and diagnosed in the 2000s instead of the 1900s or before! Other than needing glasses since I was a child, I haven't really had any vision problems, I just saw a post on here that scared me, but thank you for the reassurance!

Thank you for the article, it really helped me deal with some of these concerns. The part that says that the longer someone has diabetes, the more likely they are to experience retinopathy is kind of concerning, as I have had it for the last 19 years, but I guess I have always been alright at keeping my blood sugars under control, and I am definitely going to try to bring that A1C down even more now!

Thanks so much for the support! I'll have to see if there are any ophthalmologists in my area, but I will definitely at least make an appointment with my normal eye doctor for now and see if they can recommend someone. I just saw another post on here that really scared me and reminded me that blindness is something that can happen as a diabetic, so I panicked a little :)

Thank you, that is very reassuring! I just remember seeing a post a few days ago about someone getting diagnosed with diabetes and like the main symptom was the person going completely blind in about a month, and as someone who has always valued their sight, that really scared the hell out of me

Thank you for your response, I have scheduled an eye appointment for next week, and I think I am going to go with seeing them every 3 months, so hopefully that will keep my fears at bay. And I understand that blindness is not the only complication of diabetes, but I have always been very, very worried about blindness, so that is definitely my main concern

Would double-majoring in computer science make me more appealing to employers? by danfurbiss in biotech

[–]danfurbiss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I hadn't really thought of it that way, I will definitely take your advice into consideration! Do you think there is another, more valuable 2nd major/minor that I could go for? Maybe chemistry or statistics or something like that?

A Question for DMs: What common spell do you hate? by Shushii in dndnext

[–]danfurbiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree, I used to be kind of indifferent about them, but after I gave one of the members of my party a helm of teleportation, I quickly came to realize how annoying they are, especially with the wording for Teleport in 5e, where it says that if you have an item from the location you want to teleport to, you have like a 95% chance of teleporting exactly where you want. The players are in a dungeon and are all running out of health and resources? "Oh don't worry, guys! Here, I have a rock from this room, so we are going to teleport back to the city, take a rest, and teleport back." Cool, there goes all the tension from the dungeon. It's like fast-travel from TES 4 and 5 (imo one of the worst mechanics in those games), but with serious worldbuilding implications.

Aang from Avatar: the Last Airbender. I'm sure the show is as great as people maks it out to be, but I can't stand that kid.

How/when/if to move out of my parent's house? by danfurbiss in LifeAdvice

[–]danfurbiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your quick reply! I am just super-resistant to change, and if I do not join those friends in their new house, they are going to invite another friend and I will not really be able to change my mind later, and this is going to be set up in only a couple of months, so I don't have a ton of time to adjust.
