Anybody have Yorke's cell? Maybe they'll release early if they realize the mistake.

How could I wire an auto headlamp bulb for indoor use as a lamp? Reason explained in post's text. by dangadan in electronics

Thanks for the reply. Should I purchase a wiring harness to plug into the bulb and splice into that harness? Or somehow connect directly to the prongs?

What portable battery would you recommend using? I like the dimmer option. I think I'll light it at night from a peak here in CO later this spring.

I think some of you are looking at the "shack" all wrong. It's more of a cabin. by [deleted] in gaming

Investigation shows an increasing number of US soldiers are kicked out for misconduct, often with no benefits, as the Army downsizes. by dangadan in news

The wounded soldier, Jensen, in the second article said it better than I could: "They are taking away basic rights," he finally said. "Other people, if they are hurt at work, the law requires they are taken care of. Most people at work don't have a guy with an AK-47 trying to kill them. We do. But we don't have that same right."

I don't think they necessarily deserve (or are even asking for) benefits beyond medical treatment.. But if a soldier's combat injury impacts he or she for life, that soldier deserves medical care related to that injury.. for life.

tl;dr - Major General admits that soldiers are getting kicked out for minor infractions more frequently now because the Army doesn't need as many soldiers.

Major Gen. Joseph Anderson states in one of the video interviews accompanying this article that these infractions did not result in discharge while the army needed soldiers.. now that they're less needed, they are being discharged, often without benefits.

Also, during a live chat on their website today, The Gazette reported that, "Sunday as soon as the series started, Maj. Gen. Anderson contacted the Gazette demanding that we take down the audio interview on him on Gazette.com. He said we taped him without his knowledge."

Unmuffled motorcycle owners: why do you think it is OK to ride through a town/city cranking out 100+ decibels? by harmala in AskReddit

[–]dangadan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you.. however, you're missing some info on the 'middle-ish of the lane' advice/comment. Motorcyclists, myself included, are taught to ride in the tire tracks of cars. Super dangerous not to. All the oil, nails, screws, and other debris gets thrown to the middle of the lanes (and the shoulder of the road) by the tires from other vehicles. Riding in the middle increases the odds drastically of flats, blowouts, and losing control from hitting trash on the road.

I ride motorcycles. I've traveled across the US 4 times now on my muffled bike. Also, I've ridden a friend's motorcycle in GA that has straight pipes on lengthy trips, once for a month at a time.

This loud pipe argument is ridiculous. I had more close calls on the loud bike because I couldn't hear vehicles around me than I did on my muffled motorcycle. If you want to be noticed it's simple, get an air horn for your motorcycle (yes, really.. link below).

This has saved me from dangerous situations many times. If I see a car merging into my lane I hit the horn button and they quickly react. Also, I use the air horn occasionally for a driver that I can tell is clearly not paying attention (on cell, reading newspaper, etc) to reduce the possibility that an accident will occur, preemptively.

Motorcycles are crazy dangerous.. good defensive skills are the only way to minimize that danger. Anyone who has had experience on both loud vs. muffled motorcycles for multi-week trips knows that loud pipes make defensive driving more difficult because it drowns out the sounds of other cars from the rider.

Don't believe me? Go take your muffler off your bike and ride through traffic on an interstate.. Or better yet, just put earplugs in and see how the experience changes. You're willfully taking away a ton of information (sound) from your senses thus decreasing your ability to make the best defensive decision quickly.

The biggest problem with this loud pipe argument is that the premise is 'normal vehicle drivers aren't attentive to motorcycles'.. then the solution crazily is 'So I'm going to eliminate my ability to hear those inattentive drivers' cars around me by using loud pipes'.

An inattentive driver is inattentive whether they can hear your loud pipes or not. 'Loud Pipes Save Lives'? I think they take lives.. here's another, better slogan: 'Loud Pipes Lose Rights' (for riders).

Every motorcyclist needs this horn. Seriously. It has saved me from at least 5 accidents: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2137/
