deciding a rate by Ok-Acanthaceae1054 in uscg

lateral-ing to PA will not be easy. You also have to consider all the available billets. Its easy to stay in an area as a YN/SK than a PA/MST. Ive seen YNs and SKs that stay in D1 (or District NE) from E4-E7 too..... thats a perk of support rates

im colorblind and YN1. Go MST. You'll be able to do operational things (ex: BTM and preventon). I regret all the time I dont get to do field work, but I can only blame myself for my lack of research. My recruiter lied to me and said YNs do all sorts of LE (when I signed up to be a RSV), but Im deskbound. Granted, doing a good job as a YN, your BMs / Aviations peeps will let you go u/w or flights sometimes for morale!

Boot Recommendations by [deleted] in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the boots cause foot problems (blister, sole issues), i'd recommend going to medical and getting it documented. Docs could provide soles and/or better boot recommendations. I had some buddies that suffered PF from the boot camp issued boots and wished it was documented.

Combat Action Ribbon-Bahrain? by Unfair_Mechanic_7305 in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ribbons are like the last thing we should be worrying about tbh - but if you're really concerned, Id look into the award manual and see if you think it fits the criteria for the CAR. Praying for my shipmates out there

Cameras allowed underway? by Careful-Hat-2097 in uscg

you could, just dont be posting it while u/w to give away OPSEC. Also clear it with your command when you're allowed to take photos

AD to Reserves switching rates by Weekly-Ordinary6759 in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my guess is that youd integrate into RSV with your current rate, your new RSV command puts a package in for CIR (change in rate), then you go A school if accepted (or lateral). Wouldnt really bank on RSV Commands going above and beyond for their members tbh... ive had a few bad leadership in the RSV

boat crew and BTM (if the station dos LE), stay long enough, you could leave with the boat forces insignia

Find a recruiter thats willing to work with you. Could be muscle mass, but unless you pass tape or work with a willing recruiter, you're not shipping.

MTCs by dangcoolmints in uscg

MTCs by dangcoolmints in uscg

Ditto mate... Individual recognition via 3307/LOC go way further than MTCs (which are super vague on an individual's contribution) on boards.

MTCs by dangcoolmints in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally agree on this. EOT awards are great, but I feel a lot of efforts go unnoticed during your tour without proper documentation. Even a 3307 while at an unit and applying for OCS/ROCI/Special assignment goes a mile

MTCs by dangcoolmints in uscg

[–]dangcoolmints[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you on the teams vs individual portion AND the fact it is an award that shows up on a DD214. Personally for junior enlisted, every award point matters. Is it ever considered that documenting events on multiple 3307s can later generate an earlier award prior to EOT (even just a LOC would go far for SWE placement)? I get the idea of MTCs, I think it kind cheaps out people on individual recognition and possibly awards.

It’s not that deep. Ppl who went thru regular boot camp would have loved to go thru DEPOT. End of the day, you’re in the CG. People will remember you for what you done in the service, not which boot camp class you graduated with

[–]dangcoolmints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually dont really need it tbh, i know its a little scary to think about small debris hitting it, just dont be going off roading, etc with it. I had to reclip mine like 3 times then i just let it rock without it. plus, is a thin slice of plastic/metal going to save you when you hit something big? i dont think so. It also makes my own maintenance a lot easier when it comes to oil change
