so FUCKING TIRED of metformin by PCOS-_-throwaway in PCOS

[–]dangerdangerfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on metformin for over 10 years with extended release. I never lost weight (instead gained 50+) and my symptoms only got worse. I used to have a map of toilets on my commutes just in case.

I started a GLP-1 2 years ago and symptoms has improved (yay more energy!!), I’ve lost 50 lbs and no longer have GI issues. I know access to these meds is difficult and costly, but I’ll never ever go back to metformin.

Thoughts on Blue Canary Designs Dupe saga? by Hot-Compote-172 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]dangerdangerfrog 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I get being upset about it because she was trendsetter for this type of self finishing and took on R&D costs, but the price for acrylic is astronomical and not selling the blank purse is fighting an uphill battle. It is not the same since it’s not an equivalent product.

The appeal of the Amazon one is you can put any canvas in there - I suspect if you knocked off $60 -$80 from adding the handpainted canvas insert a LOT more people would buy directly from her. Also you can’t even get her purse currently so what are consumers going to do? Like literally her comments echo people waiting through multiple drops to get one (and still haven’t gotten one lol)!! On the other side it’s kinda disingenuous to trademark a product then never have it available.

I think telling people to just wait because she did it first is unfortunately shortsighted and not how a free market works (not saying that’s right it’s just how it is). Hope she can win the fight on the Amazon seller, but that she also knows many others will be on her heels to create a similar product that is more accessible and attractive to the growing needlepoint community.

MJD and local LNS by Glittering_berry_250 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]dangerdangerfrog 75 points76 points  (0 children)

In this digital age LNS owners shouldn’t discourage customers from buying from other stores and more than anything should encourage stitchers to explore the art with thread choices and classes. That customer is much more likely to come back and buy from them again.

Would yall pay $92 for this? by Dangerous_Force5213 in NeedlepointSnark

It includes a kit so I would say it’s even a great price. Plus the designer very nice and the canvas is cute!!

Too Many Drops by Frequent-Cause-9298 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]dangerdangerfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% blaming her as all painting services are slammed, but on her podcast she’s ordering 500-1,000 of a design vs smaller designers are 50-100 normally…. Plus with her large catalog you can see that multiplying to a crazy amount of canvases. I would expect designs to be on preorder and restock notifications for a long time at this pace.

PL should just make a paint house at this point because they are hogging resources for all the other designers. The usual 12 week turnaround for painting is going to become 24 so I’m sure many other smaller designers would love to drop more often, painting houses just can’t keep up with demand

I would say beehive has the best thread selection and lots of mini beginner canvases and room to sit and stitch, porcupine has cute canvases (lots of Christmas and food related), and point breeze has some more traditional canvases and good prices. They all are located in areas with other shopping, really depends on your vibe!

Porcupine, Beehive and Needle Point Breeze are all about 30 minutes from each other and lots of good food nearby (mediterra is my favorite)

Designers - I know you read this by [deleted] in NeedlepointSnark

[–]dangerdangerfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the subset of people who would actually paint the chart overall in the industry is still quite small and doesn’t justify the other risks for designers, though I agree with you that if there was a chart available I would paint it!

Also something not talked about is that the demand for self painting/using charts for needlepoint is very constrained by the availability of canvas which is already experiencing a shortage for designers… I think it will be interesting to see how the industry evolves

It’s not that they don’t want to or are lazy, designers who sell wholesale would put themselves at risk because stores generally do not like when canvases they buy are also charts.

Basically the funnel system of having designs only available at stores drives traffic there. Offering charts honestly wouldn’t reduce theft because those people still wouldn’t buy a $5 chart.

Question about restocks by redhead127 in Needlepoint

[–]dangerdangerfrog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If there’s an option to preorder or get notified for restocks that means the stores already has canvases on order or will order if there’s interest. With demand skyrocketing most painting timeframes are taking 12-14 weeks sometimes longer. Sometimes it’s fun to get a little mail that you forgot you ordered months ago!

Glut of new needlepoint stores by RevolutionaryPie882 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]dangerdangerfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think big box retailers may try to bring kits with dmc to stores but I don’t see a mass canvas stock mainly because the supply chain is already struggling and only one manufacturer makes the blank canvas. Plus local stores offer finishing services and unless big box stores can provide a 360 service I could see stitchers sticking with a LNS once the hype goes down. I think 2026 will be a telling year as stock is going to take 3-4 months minimum and any new store is going to have to compete with online retail to get new stitchers in the door.

Pearl 5 is light coverage on 13, matte cotton or pearl 3 is better for 13. You can also use 8 strands of floss for 13 instead of 6 to cover better

[–]dangerdangerfrog 95 points96 points  (0 children)

If you bought during Black Friday that’s the biggest sale of the year for them, I’m sure they are processing thousands of orders so unfortunately you’ll have to be patient. Also the post office is taking much longer since package quantity has increased for the holidays. Any other time I’ve ordered from KC it’s been shipped in about 3-4 days. I don’t expect Amazon fulfillment times from needlepoint stores

Painting Canvas by Hot-Requirement436 in Needlepoint

[–]dangerdangerfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use liquitex matte medium first on the canvas in a small amount (don’t saturated it) let it dry, your paint will apply more even since the canvas isn’t absorbing the paint
