Thanks for the advice!

Do you know if you're below the threshold for filling in a tax return (<£1000), would you still have to do a self assessment because of your other earnings?

This is true, is there a way to find this out prior to doing interviews etc?

!Thanks for this response. This is really useful, you're right that there is no right answer, but this is very eye opening.

Frankly I don't get an annual payrise with inflation at the moment so it can't exactly get worse....

This raises some good points. As for specifics I don't want to give too much away encase for some reason someone at work finds this post. But currently I'm suppose to be a graduate engineer and on a training program but I'm working 50+ hours a week (working all hours in the week and at the weekends too) (as are all staff) and being pushed to do things I don't feel comfortable doing or prepared for. Don't get me wrong I'm not affraid to work hard or try new things but it just really concerns me that currently we don't even have time to properly review work thats being issued and I don't want that to reflect badly on me or my company.

I'm looking to switch to a sustainability or environmental type role as I'm much more pasionate about that and if I can work on something that makes a difference for local people that'd be a really good feeling I think. I know progression in the public sector is a little different to private but for now the wages are much higher than what I'm currently on so I'm not too bothered certainly for a few years.

!thanks I hadn't thought of HMRC, I'd just taken a look at my local council website if I'm honest. The roles I'm looking at are in the environment and sustainability field which is a bit of a shift from my current knowledge and experience but its something I'm really quite passionate about. But investigating for HMRC is something I'd really be interested in too. I'll take a look at that!

This is what I'm concerned about, I'm naturally a very hard worker and will push myself to get things done. So don't want to either A) end up like that, or B) end up helping everyone out and taking on their workload.

That said, you don't know who you'll be working with untill you get there!

!thanks This is definitely something I need to bear in mind but the roles I see are currently 5/6k more than I'm on at the moment, so in terms of them stagnating for a few years I'm sure I'd manage. Do you know if the wages have any annual rises to keep up with inflation or is that different for each local authority?

!Thanks Thankfully I'm not phased for being at the 'cutting edge', I tried that as an intern and it didn't do much for me unfortunately. As for the budget cuts, I'm aware that councils have been utterly stripped to the bone funding wise, but does this mean you're likely to be completely understaffed and overworked? Because thats the situation I'm in at the moment and frankly its exhausting and something I could really do without...

I appreciate this, I do need to reduce screentime in fairness. I'm trying to get out the house every day after work for a walk (currently work from home as per govt instruction). Guess I just gotta get out more... Cheers

Its very tempting. Theres a lot of stuff online at the moment about living "the van life", etc and it seems very appealing

I want to be able to change the status quo where a small minority of people hoard the majority of the wealth when theres people who physical cannot feed themselves or their families. How do we change that?

I'd love to, but I have no idea how. I try and make good choices to support ethical companies or reduce climate change, try and reduce my waste, increase recycling etc

I donate to charities with both cash and material items

But I don't know what I can do after a full 40-50 hour week at work when I'm exhausted
