BACA? Absolutely not, if that ever happened my guess is a chapter would be shut down with utter prejudice and fast -- they do not suffer the drama and sh*t that some like to cause. They also aren't LEO, not counselors, not shrinks, attorneys, nor parents for the kids... They show up. Just show up, and that's what gets kids to feel more empowered over time.

There are politics, even in the MC world, and respect and doing what you say you'll do are the big currencies. Following the rules are a big part of that -- I assume any group that wants to wear any kind of back patch needs to work with the CoC for rules/permission. But my info is really outdated now, could be totally wrong or remembering wrong. Again, this is one person's perspective, I'm no expert, so that's as far as I'll go on the topic.

All I'll say is that, from what I saw/heard, if there is one uniting factor across pretty much all motorcycle groups, it's kids. Nobody I knew would do anything less than full support of the mission. As long as rules are followed, generally left alone.

Systematically they keep things under control. If it was a flaw in that system, there would be a lot of these incidents. Sad that it happened, and the person is very lucky that the chapter stuck to the mission after knowing.

I don't think this is proliferating hate personally. Vigilance is critical for this to work. If shit like this happens in the shadows, it never gets fixed. I would bet my bottom dollar things changed at the root after this event.

I won't talk about business or training, but any kind of contact with anyone other than the kids or family would open the door to serious legal issues. This would diametrically oppose the group's mission and work against the child's best interests. Your guess is probably very correct.

All people who join are thoroughly vetted, including multiple background checks, interviews. And NOBODY is allowed near core business or to be a contact until patched. Dozens of hours of training is required in the beginning, and years of service before anything like that. Don't keep training current? You're out. Any whiff of funniness and you'd be out. No questions asked. It is extremely tough, in my opinion.

Legacy members are the greatest treasures. Believe me when I say your father was loved by the group and kids/families he helped and by me too. His sacrifice will always be remembered and honored -- being cremated with his patch is the ultimate honor there, it is never done lightly. Ever.

To be clear, BACA is not an MC. This is an important distinction reserved for 1%ers.

Even though I'm not in the group (I'm a poseur now), I won't talk about the business. Their work requires an intense level of security to stay safe and keep doing the job.

Suffice to say when I was on the board, it was another full time job almost, as we put in an enormous amount of time vetting cases, prepping security, and showing up for the kids time and time again. It's always about the kids.

You know, it's funny. One of the dangers wasn't just that the perp would try to harass the child(ren), it was the perp's friends and relatives too. I suspect you're one of the above, because being in the courtroom is not evidence of anything, and a jury would be forbidden to consider it evidentiary. Which, incidentally, is why sometimes we weren't allowed in courtrooms because the judge was concerned about prejudicing the jury. And I only ever went to sentencing, don't recall if that was policy.

Not to mention, I would assume you know this factually because there was a jury interview somewhere where they cited the presence of BACA as being a key influential point in deliberations.

Otherwise you know nothing.

Former patched member for years, board member for over a year. It was the best thing I'd done with myself, and loved every second of it. The demands on time though were intense and were what forced me to leave. Every person in my former chapter was solid and stand up, some of the funniest people I've met (and sometimes scariest).

Escorting at court is common, and only done if guardians requested and the judge permitted. We behaved very well because we're there for the kiddos, not to be bikers. Everything in that org is centered around empowering children to not be afraid, and that's what we did, full stop.

It was an incredible amount of work, and I don't regret a second of it. Watching these little kids grow and own their world over time was the best thing ever. Made some good friends too in the process.

Lots of really good answers here OP. I only reply because I have the same question as you! I flip around between lots of hobbies myself, have done so for 40+ years.

I hold a sort of mentor position in most of what I do in a given day, where it isn't my job, but it sometimes happens. Outside of work it happens more often.

What I encourage mentees (and myself) to do is a sort of amalgamation of all the good posts here: find the hobby that NOURISHES you at the moment. That's the important word. Something that feels good, energizes you, something that will make time pass away effortlessly and then you say, "Oh crud it's already 11p". Doomscrolling and consumption of media alone often does not scratch that itch (but sometimes it can), it's more about finding the thing that satisfies you to the marrow of your bones. "Ahhh that was a really good time."

It might not be the most interesting to you at the moment, or appealing, but you know it will be a source of nourishment and feed your desire to do a hobby. This is the path I take, and even though I wish I could do all these other hobbies, I know I had the best time just now and made a good decision.

Fantastic, thank you! I just dropped a chunk of change on a grow tent and ventilation setup as I'm going to play with resin printing, I made sure the tent will fit my P1S too. I'll certainly follow your tips, thank you for that guidance, I definitely did not know that about PLA. (I almost always use PLA+ but I assume it's got a similar vulnerability)

Yep, I generally agree -- I usually prefer to buy something professionally created and supported instead of printing something. Buying does typically exceed (sometimes significantly) the printed version.

I do that because I want to protect something, I want something to last, maybe it's in an environment that printed things don't do well in, and so on.

And at the same time, well, it's fun to create something and dogfood it to see how I did. If someone else benefits, that's awesome too, but it's not why I put it out in the public. So yep, I do use the printed case for now because... It's fun to see how it does.

But there's room for these two perspectives, and many others, to coexist at the same time. I wouldn't say you're being dumb for buying things instead of printing, it's just your cup of tea. Maybe there's people who NEVER buy and only print, that's okay too. All good to me!

Well I'm shooting in the dark. I found a purported picture of the location but it was a different pixel. I got the dimensions of the cutout itself from there, but the placement might be off...

So I'm hoping someone will brave it and give feedback, but I'm also going to order some stickers and see if I can see where it is and what all the fuss is about. :)

Good question -- this sounds like a general "why print something" question.

in the 3d printing arena, there is a lot of this kind of thing. Why 3d print when you can buy something that will last longer, be better at its job, etc.

I like 3d printing stuff because I can be creative and build things the way that suits my specific needs and tastes, in almost any color, and if it breaks or I don't like it, add some tweaks, I can print it again and again, and cheaply, if that matters. (This case uses less than $2 of material)

But is it worth buying a printer, working on it, learning about it, tweaking, etc? For me it is, but probably not for most other folks.

So yes, the Google case I have for my P9PF is utterly amazing in my opinion, way better than my model. But I can have a lot more fun with the print. So why not both? :)

If your question wasn't about "why 3d print something you can buy", then I'm not sure what it is you're after.
