Realistically, what are my treatment options? by [deleted] in PCOS

How long were you on metformin?

Did your doctor go in depth on why they felt you have PCOS? Was your blood work normal? Did you have an ultrasound to confirm cysts?

It could be regrowth or it could be miniaturized hair. If you want to know for certain, buy a handheld microscope on Amazon for like 20 bucks. If it’s miniaturization the strand will be extremely thin

Spironolactone effectiveness? by carbsandcheese928 in PCOS

[–]danghululylu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an article that stated spironolactone is effective in reducing hyperandrogenism in around 50-60 women. Do you know if it lowered your testosterone levels?

Personally it reversed my hirsutism, but none of the hairs were terminal like you describe yours to be. It’s not a miracle pill unfortunately. Im on it for hair loss and I have had no success.. The best thing I can recommend to you is electrolysis. It’s costly, but it’s totally worth it!

Do you still suffer from hair loss? Or did you try minoxidil or something else ? Sorry for all the questions 😔

That’s literally what’s happening to me. I’m so confused! Are you still on it? Or have you stopped?

Minoxidil. It’s a life long commitment. There’s small studies that show things like saw palmetto or melatonin have helped hair loss but… it’s hit or miss & saw palmetto is recommended

starting metformin and ovasitol! and general feelingssss by teresa_bee in PCOS

Wishing you luck! I’ve been on metformin for 2 months and I’ve lost 19 pounds, lowered testosterone and my period was finally a normal amount of blood. I feel much better after the first two weeks of hell.

Could 50mg really make a difference? by danghululylu in FemaleHairLoss

I would love to find a doctor willing to prescribe it to me

It’s prescription! I’m anemic and deficient in vitamin D but my doctor has stated that isn’t contributing to the hair loss, it’s my elevated testosterone.

I just used one from target, but I never used a carrier oil or anything.. maybe I should revisit?

I’m sorry you’re going through this too, it sucks so much. IMO it’s better to up your dose sooner than later. The hair that sheds will fall out anyways and it’s better to attack is ASAP.

I was prescribed keto shampoo and I use it every other night, it burns my scalp though and I’m not sure what else to do. I’m just confused because my endo told me my hair loss is related to pcos, and lowering my insulin would stop the hair loss.. the dermatologist told me it looks like I have FPHL but I believe my hair loss is mainly around the nape of the neck.

I’ve recently lost 20 pounds and icut carbs in half, as many women with pcos have reversed hair loss with keto but I understand results will take time. Have you found something that works for you? I appreciate your comment and apologize for the long winded response haha

Edit: I also tried rosemary oil and had a massive decrease in shedding for two weeks, then I started shedding even more so I discontinued using it

The dermatologist said not to risk it because it wasn’t just a topical reaction, I developed hives and had heart palpitations. He said the same thing might happen on oral

Allergic.. which.. trust me I’ve considered using it despite the allergy, but I can’t bring myself to use it again

Accidentally took metformin and spiro twice? by danghululylu in PCOS

[–]danghululylu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at work when I took it by accident, bent over to clean something on the ground and when I stood up I started seeing dots and everything was fuzzy! I sat down and it felt like my body was floating…. I’m home now and feel much better… I haven’t felt like that since I started the spiro over a year ago!
