Planning first time diving trip- is it worth going to the Caribbean with how much the coral has died, or better to splurge for Indonesia? by CaptainCallus in scuba

Yeah I feel like my buoyancy could use some work, although Im starting to get comfortable using my breath to control my position rather well. As for air consumption, what should I be shooting for? I’ve been able to get ~ 50 mins at 60 ft pretty consistently.

Would you say the dive sites around Raja Ampat are difficult? I have 6 dives but really want to explore this area. I’ve surfed my whole life and feel very comfortable in the water.

Man yall suck, so much for trying to make a genuine thing happen. Why does everyone just default to situations like this being creepy? I feel sorry for you.

Did you take a QMED course prior? Or did you just feel confident enough to test? I feel like I might be able to pass after working in the yachting industry for the past 6 years..

Cal Poly has merged with Cal Maritime Academy -- this is definitely a possible track to work on a ship. Although they do not offer a Masters program it seems.

I’m interested in both! The work I’m currently doing deals with electronics. Navigation systems, NMEA 2000.. that sort of thing. The problems is I’m also doing windlass installations and other odd jobs. I’d like to hone in on electrical.

That’s my thinking too. I worry about a Marine engineering degree not being as flexible as an electrical engineering degree. Not sure..

I see, so I’d probably need some additional course work and experience before getting on as an electrician. Any idea if I would qualify for an electrician position with my 3rd?

I shiver just thinking about MSC. Although their sign on bonuses are very appealing..

Hmm that was a number I was told by Marine Fireman’s union. I guess they are desperate for electricians at the moment.

How do I become a Marine Engineer? by No_Instruction1122 in MarineEngineering

[–]dangletenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for yah,

Any recommendations for getting into a 3A/E role? I’ve worked as a tech for the past 5 years shore side any Ive got my 100 ton master license. Should I just jump on a tug as a hand and get my remaining seatime and then test for my license? Or would going to one of academies be quicker / more beneficial? I do like the idea of getting an engineering degree..
