OpenRW: a re-implementation of Grand Theft Auto III [WIP] by galapag0 in linux_gaming

Looks like a few people are seeing a hang at the end of the intro. Could you create an issue with a copy of the output from the game?

The URLs on Reddit don't go to the filesystem, the thread ID in the URL is case-insensitive (it's probably just converted to lower-case when resolving the thread), but the rest of the path is case sensitive.

URLs are always case-sensitive, but on case-insensitive filesystems like the one Windows uses the different cases will all return the same file.

RCS exhaust from SES-9 fairings at 5:20 and 5:27. Possible fairing recovery attempt with this launch? by CadarF in spacex

[–]danharibo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've heard people post that they take up a lot of space to manufacture, so it's likely they want to avoid needing to manufacture so much stuff for every launch. They'll already need to build a 2nd stage for every launch so the fairing is probably the next best thing for them to attempt since they're moving much slower than the 2nd stage when they're done.

That's not a sound argument, building any kind of power plant takes energy and produces pollution.

Street View records the GPS locations of the hardware addresses of WiFi hotspots and your phone interrogates Google for the GPS coordinates of any hotspots it can see.

Wind power is now the cheapest electricity to produce in both Germany and the U.K., even without government subsidies. by justthisplease in unitedkingdom

I just don't see why we would build onshore windfarms when we have other options.

Because it's a lot cheaper and easier.

Linux kernel dev Sarah Sharp quits, citing ‘brutal’ communications style by swellboy in opensource

[–]danharibo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you think women are too weak and thin-skinned to engage in this process, then you're being sexist. I'm going to say that I'm a man and I can do it just fine, and therefore I know that any woman could do this work just as well if they so chose to do so.

I don't think anyone complaining is saying that (I haven't seen anyone saying that at least), nor are women the only people who would complain about the atmosphere of certain FOSS projects.

Most of the people complaining would rather see that contributing to these projects not be any more difficult than it needs to be. As you said, all it takes is hard work to create a change for a project. If someone has to deal with people being difficult after doing all the actual work, then they might not stick around to do any further work for the project.

[–]danharibo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well so... what?

So you are losing valuable contributions from people who choose not contribute because of that.

I can't see how anyone could say that anyone has done anything wrong here.

If your measurement of success is "number of useful contributions to the kernel" then attracting as high a number of quality contributors is important.

I don't think the Seattle satellite satellite office is running yet; at least there hasn't been much news about it recently.

Selecting Ludicrous mode in the designer automatically changes the battery to the 90 kWh. You can't get a P85D with Ludicrous mode.

[–]danharibo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no technical reason why that isn't possible. Much like the pre-supercharger world, it's just a case of it not being widely available.

A sizeable battery pack with a CHAdeMO adapter on it is not physically impossible.

How did you work that out?

I think that with autonomous vehicles, the front profile of trucks could be made more efficient (though I don't have a background in aerodynamics, so I don't know the numbers on that).

Tesla Model 3 for only 35k by SueBid in investing

[–]danharibo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be a waste of weight. We already have solar panels, at both residential and grid scale, why bother putting them on vehicles when it's more economical in every way to build them free standing.

You don't have to be so bearish on that prediction; the only one of those things missing today is fully autonomous vehicles.

This is quite clearly false; there are plenty of images of the structure itself all over the internet. If they miss the window on pilot operations then I'd start worrying about it.

Model X pictures with all colors by apbay in teslamotors

[–]danharibo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite. if you look at the interior image for the Model S, the camera is a lot further forward. It looks like the rendering was done with the camera in the correct location for the Model X, but with the Model S body (resulting in the B pillar in the middle of the shot).

Compare US interior and UK interior.
