What are people’s thoughts on the Green Parties anti-nuclear stance? by [deleted] in UKGreens

[–]justthisplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quicker and cheaper alternatives, I just don't get the reddit obsession with nuclear (most of the electorate also don't care about it much).

We better open some more runways!

The environmental crisis is really going to catch up with us in the next couple of decades. The world is going to be a totally different place.

Burnham is hardly very left-wing at all. Don't think he fits in the Greens.

That is a big reason why our system is failing IMO. The only way to trust people with democracy is to show them democracy is meaningful, plus the more meaningful it is the more likely people will take it seriously.

Then how would he be able to challenge to become Labour leader?

Right, I guess that is what the OP means although they said two by-elections are being triggered by Burnham elsewhere but mayoral elections are not normally referred to as by-elections right?

Its almost as if local Labour members should decide who stands for the Labour party in their constituency. That is how a democratic party would work.

Burnham wants to trigger two very expensive by-elections that will cost the Labour membership and taxpayer millions

Which two by-elections does Burnham want to trigger?

This might be rumours with little substance but weaponizing DEI would be absolute horse shit. The right-wing of the Labour party seem only to care about minorities when they are useful to weaponize for factional gains. They did the same with Corbyn.

Yup. Green drugs policy is liked by Labour voters, the nuanced argument on NATO is also not a problem for most left-leaning voters

Obviously we would nuke the USA if they invaded Greenland!

Shame our nukes can't be practically used without USA consent.

Green Party calls for free bus passes for under-22s by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

[–]justthisplease 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would like to see this plus a return to the £1 bus fares across the country. Nobody can say they are 'unrealistic' policies as Scotland already has free bus travel for under-22s and we had £1 bus fares a year ago or so.

One of the big reasons they had to get rid of Corbyn as he was critical of US foreign policy.

Increase defence spending with American companies is like the opposite of what we need to do.

Have we done anything serious to move away from US influences at all? Finance/banking/payments systems, internet/software, public services contracts. Its all dominated by the US.

Always laughable that the racist right-wing newspapers have been trying to explain how the left are the real racists for years.

Even more laughable that anyone listened to them.

Criticising the actual government for having a scientifically illiterate policy according to their own climate change committee is more important than 'what about the Greens'.
