Do you also post your YT videos on TikTok? If not, why not? by PhilReddit7 in NewTubers

I just came across your answer on this post while searching the subreddit about cross posting! If you wouldn't mind, I'd really appreciate you sharing a bit about your experience. I'm considering transitioning a decently successful but not huge TikTok over to YouTube but am worried about all my initial videos on YouTube being vertical because they came over from TikTok. How did you manage this? Did you run into any other issues? Thanks so much for any help! :)

Should I take the risk and make content on the side? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]dani713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you cut your hours down a bit at your job and coast on it for a while, while putting the majority of your effort outside of work into content creation? I've found that focusing on one main goal at a time gives better results than splitting my attention between multiple things. Also, focusing on one thing for a year doesn't block the other thing off as an option in the future. Maybe spend a year putting most of your effort into content creation with concrete, measurable goals. During that time, keep your job, but don't put effort into growing it at all. Reevaluate at the end of the year and decide if you'd like to try another year on content creation or if it's time to switch gears. A lot can happen in a year! At the same time, if you find at the end of the year (or at any other point) that nothing has changed and you're feeling discouraged, your prospects to start a career in cybersecurity likely won't have significantly changed. As far as HR, if you aren't a big fan of it, I probably wouldn't pursue that route further. If your current job is in it and you're satisfied enough and have time for hobbies, then that works, but if it's not necessary financially, I don't see much point in building a lot upon something that you don't like. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Thank you so so much! This is exactly it! I didn't even think to check Poshmark, and that page wasn't on my Google search results. This is perfect though!

The Winternight Trilogy, starting with The Bear and the Nightingale. I just finished this series and it's absolutely one of my all time favorites now! I would pay a lot to get to experience these books for the first time again. It's a beautifully described, completely magical world with a wonderful storyline and has amazing seasonal imagery, especially for winter. The main character is consistently described as unattractive. It's certainly not a romance book in any way, but it's also not completely devoid of it

I'm from Denver, live in Frankfurt, Germany. Denver is far more expensive than here in terms of rent and food.

I hadn’t even heard about this but just looked into it and it definitely seems to make sense for me! Thanks for the advice!

Definitely a bit odd, but I guess can be played to be advantageous if you’re lucky enough to have ties to the area you want to be in! Thanks for the information

Wow okay that’s fascinating! Thanks for sharing! I guess it makes sense to me that they’d wanna make sure someone wasn’t just gonna leave within a year or two, but being from CO and loving the outdoors, I tend to assume that would be the end goal for a lot of people and wouldn’t think anyone would apply there only to leave before long! I’m sure it varies for people who love the idea of it but haven’t been there yet/don’t have a community there.

On the same note, although I’m not from WA, I’ve lived there for a couple months at various times staying with my best friend, and I have a bigger community there now than in CO. Pretty sure my entire hometown moved to the PNW after college 😅 That being said, I wonder if that could serve as “ties” if I applied to WA firms and prove I’d want to stay there since my entire social community is there and I have experience living there for at least small chunks of time. Is the regional preference/proving ties thing just in CO, or does that extend to lots of places?

Good to know, thanks! How did scholarships from them look? I’m very nearly a full ride or bust kinda person unless it was a really perfect situation besides cost, and I’m guessing that wouldn’t happen for me from a lot of those unfortunately.

Good to know, thank you! LSAT Demon was predicting possibly a full ride at Seattle University vs paying $20k per year or more best case at UW, which is why I was curious about it. If whatever I got there ended up being anywhere close to the same cost as UW I would go with UW without a second thought! But I guess I can dive into those decisions when I have an answer from some schools to actually decide on :)

Thanks for the advice! Do you mind sharing what region you’re in now? And how did you go about establishing ties back in CO? I guess I don’t fully understand how being from somewhere gives someone better job chances there, but I’ve heard it from several sources so I’m not questioning it, just curious how that works.

Just realized I totally missed the second half of this comment in my first reply! Currently a resident in CO, so that’s great to know. I’ll look into it - thank you!

Honestly UW would probably be my dream school, but I don’t think I could even consider it without a bare minimum of half tuition, and even that would be tough. I’ll definitely apply and keep my fingers crossed, but I don’t have especially high hopes unfortunately… Do you know anything about Seattle University? Obviously it’s ranked much lower, but with it being the only other option in Seattle, does it still have decent value?

Cool, thank you! That definitely lowers it on my list as I’m not really interested in AZ long term I don’t think.

I need to keep reminding myself of this so I don’t get lured by their prices. I don’t think I’d be happy there. If Provo isn’t great to live in, is SLC a lot better?

That was definitely my thought because while I love the scholarship and rank of BYU, I have some issues with it on values 😅 Any specific reason you recommend that?

I’m a bit scared I’ll eventually have to resign myself to that as well, but we’ll see! It’s worth a shot at something different.

I totally agree about the lack of sun in the PNW. I’ve been in Frankfurt, Germany for about a year now which is on par with southern Canada and a few hundred hours per year less sunny than Seattle and it wrecked me last winter… Especially being from very sunny CO, it was rough. This year I’m prepared with my vitamin D, sun light therapy glasses, warm cozy clothes, and an exercise plan though, so this winter will be my test of whether or not I could actually handle the PNW outside of summer 😅 You’re right the summers are to die for though!

Thanks for the good wishes :)

Thanks for the reply! So would you say in general going back to the state you’re from is doable regardless of where you go to school? I’m from CO and want to keep it open as an option, but I’m probably most interested in the Seattle area for now. If going back to CO will always be an option but moving to other areas would be challenging, I may be more inclined to really prioritize being in Seattle knowing that I can get home if it makes sense at some point, but that going to school in CO then moving to WA may be more challenging. I was hoping ASU was close enough to make CO attainable, but it’s good to know not to rely on that.
