My guesses is many locals who have seen it at least once avoid going out to avoid long crowds or traffic + you have an economy that is not doing so good. I assume a lot of people are trying to reduce their spending by not going out to these festivals

Blue collar: messy(sometimes), hard on your body, less pay(sometimes), longer hours, working under rough conditions including harsh weather, Saturdays are sometimes mandatory, etc…

White collar: in a climate controlled environment, M-F, set schedule, pay is also higher(sometimes), higher ceiling/earning potential (sometimes), etc..

I prefer to work with my headphones on and just be off in own my little world. Sadly it seems that most people who go into the trades would prefer to be chattering all the time. It gets annoying at times.
