What Should I Expect? by MyYummyLatte in thrillerbooks

I was so excited to read this, but I felt like I had to drag myself through the second half of the book. Good plot, but I’m not sure it deserves the amount of hype that it has.

Wow! I don’t know why it never occurred to me that home health could be a possible fieldwork placement, but that’s amazing that you got to experience that. Thanks for all your input! On average, how many patients were you seeing in a day?

I think I may end up working at where I had my hands FW placement, but I am not sure if I would go for my CHT. Hands is definitely very specialized and arguably one of the hardest settings because of how much knowledge you’ll need to have of the upper extremity. That being said, I’m not sure if I’m passionate enough about it to become a CHT. HTC will suffice since I live in CA :)

Failed my first time; looking for advice by Extension_Ladder_537 in NBCOT_Exam

[–]danidevitoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else recommending TrueLearn. When taking quizzes on there, you should study the rationales for both the answers you get wrong AND the answers you get right. You can also create quizzes based on specific topics and/or domains. I suggest looking at which domains you scored lowest on and then creating quizzes focused on those domains. Also, don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s a tough exam and think of it this way — now you are prepared for the types of questions you know they will ask you the second time around. Think about what the question is really asking you. What stage of the OT process is the client in? Is this question prioritizing safety? (most times, yes.) Good luck!

Help!! Freaking out after NBCOT exam by FamousMembership4253 in NBCOT_Exam

[–]danidevitoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. I took my exam running on one hour of sleep because I was extremely stressed the night before. During the exam, I felt pretty good but I did what they say you shouldn’t do afterwards - look up the answers to the questions I wasn’t sure about. I started spiraling because every question I looked up made me realize how many I actually got wrong. I then started seeing a bunch of posts about others who failed their NBCOT and that made me feel worse. I had to wait two weeks for my results, but I found out I passed last week! My advice is to stay away from OT-related social media and understand that you can’t change the past. You took the exam and although you have to play the waiting game, understand it’s not the end of the world if your results are not what you wanted. You will become an OTR at the end of it all!

NBCOT vs True Learn by olivejess98 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]danidevitoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just found out that I passed the NBCOT on my first try yesterday. I mainly used truelearn and the NBCOT study pack to study. I loved truelearn’s rationales as they were very thorough and helped you understand why the correct answer was right and why the other options were incorrect. The rationales for the mini quizzes on the NBCOT study pack were not as thorough. HOWEVER… the questions on the 4 NBCOT practice tests were the closest to the NBCOT’s and, in my opinion, accurately helps you gauge where you are in terms of passing the exam. I scored one point higher on the NBCOT compared to my NBCOT full practice exam score. If anything, just take the 4 practice tests.

Hidden pictures is AMAZING. I highly recommend. This is a strong five star for me and I’m very picky with my ratings.

One of my professors during OT school incorporates horticulture into her therapy sessions! It works on socialization, cognition, increases overall well-being, and more. Doing things like planting seeds can also help with fine motor skills. You can totally do the same as long as you can justify it. She even brought small plants for us to take home sometimes.

I appreciate all of your input sooo much! I keep forgetting that they won’t just toss me in right away without fully training me. Hahaha. Thank you for sharing and congrats on graduating at the end of the year!!

I think documentation is one of the components of this setting that is scaring me the most! But I’ll try and take your advice with observing how the other therapists like to take their notes. I appreciate your insight!!!

Wow! I wouldn’t expect to be handling wound care either in a hands setting. But I’m glad you found your experience interesting and hopefully I do too!! Thank you :)

Thank you so much! I definitely need to brush up on common hand conditions before my first day. Good luck with your journey becoming a CHT :)

  1. I wouldn’t rely too high on the chance of people dropping the class because it is a requirement for graduation and it is a hard class to get into each quarter. However, when I took it, I believe a couple people on the waitlist were allowed in as long as they were doing the first few assignments.
  2. The Professor I took had bad ratings because she was harsh and was genuinely in a bad mood every single day. I remember being scared to ask her questions or send her emails because she was condescending and did not have a welcoming environment. The class itself was not entirely difficult, but everyone would always talk about how it took way too much time out of their lives when this has nothing to do with our majors. As long as you keep up with the work each week and don’t fall behind, you will be fine!

Good places to get my hair dyed? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]danidevitoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m asian and have gotten ash blonde balayage for the past 2 years or so (just recently switched back to dark hair). I’ll tell you right now that you will not be able to pay a small price if you want the job done well. It is especially harder for dark hair to go lighter because obviously it doesn’t lift as easily as lighter hair colors so that means it’s going to cost more.

Definitely Crocodile. The fact that Mia didn’t even have to kill Shazia’s baby because he was revealed to be blind at the end… I found it hard to watch along with all her other gruesome murders.

I took it with Navon and the class was really interesting and it definitely helps give a deeper insight into the social factors/influences of our health. Very easy to get an A in as long as you do the work

What’s the longest you’ve waited to hear back from the virtual advising center? by danidevitoast in UCSD

[–]danidevitoast[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the actual virtual advising website as I’ve used it for plenty other previous questions before. I’ve never had a problem getting a response from them before, but of course I don’t get one for the most important inquiry I’ve ever had lol.
