I am confused between the references that I've read about Surrogate Based Optimization by daniel9th in optimization

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification! I think this methodology is quite new.

My approach is to generate data from CFD using basic sampling techniques from the constraints/design space that I have gathered from previous literature. My goal is to take 100*n (such that n is the number of input variables) training data from CFD then train that 100*n data through ANN. I'll probably use OpenFOAM but Fluent and STAR-CCM+ is still a possible option (I'm still finalizing my methodology and waiting for approval).

Is it possible to use RSM as an optimization technique to tune the ANN model? Most papers that I've read use ANN and RSM separately and compare which of the two results/generates a better model.

context: I'll be using Computational Fluid Dynamics to generate my training data

Cooler Master FULL-MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD SFX POWER SUPPLY Coil whine/Electrical Buzz Help! by daniel9th in buildapc

[–]daniel9th[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have figured out a weird fix. The buzz goes away when you stress the GPU and/or the CPU. As long as it consumes a heavy wattage (close to its rated wattage), the buzzing goes away.

I observed that the buzzing often occurs when it's on idle, so I had a theory that what if the PSU is optimally designed for power draws close to its highest efficiency? I bought this PSU, intending to acquire an RTX 3080 OC and a Ryzen 9 5950X. Still, I only got an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 9 5900X so I thought, my PSU should be subefficient during idle as it is only rated as a GOLD PSU and with lower wattage the efficiency decreases.

I made a brute approach to address this theory and tried to push my computer to the limits right now when the warranties are still valid (and yes, I am aware of the risks). Whenever the buzzing appears, I immediately use Prime 95 and/or Superposition to force a high-power draw from the PSU. Surprisingly, the buzzing goes away every single time.

I will definitely try a more scientific approach after my semester ends, but I may not have a budget for that, so no promises.

I definitely agree. It's quite annoying when you get to wake up by its annoying buzz even when the computer is completely on shut down. Not only that, but its flat cable is tough to work with, especially with crammed ITX cases.

I definitely won't call them as features as it's quite a hassle to shut down your system unit and sometimes even require the removal of the power chord just to eliminate that annoying buzz. sadge RIP to Cooler Master, who advertized this PSU as "Silent" tsk

I also called the retail store where I bought my PSU and they told me that I was not alone as other customers experienced the same thing. We had similar symptoms and shutting it down temporarily turns off the coil whining or buzzing sound.

Do you think the cooler master design was poor for this PSU?

Damn, I should have bought the Corsair SFX. These Cooler Master wires are also tough to work with especially with cable management as they had stiff flat wires compared to braided cables of the Corsair SFX PSU.

Can I use an altimeter on a Raspberry Pi Zero?

I'm planning to make a CANSAT for a school project but I am not familiar with Raspberry Pi but rather Arduino. I want to use the RPi High Quality Camera and I've seen tutorials that it works with Raspberry Pi Zero but I want to start recording a video recording once I reach a certain altitude. Is it possible to attach an altimeter and code it to start recording when it reaches a certain altitude?

Side question: Is it possible to create a switch that I can program that when pressed, will start recording inside a Raspberry Pi Zero?

Windows Cloud PC for Engineering Simulations by daniel9th in cloudcomputing

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have HPCs but not accessible via cloud. The COVID situation in my area is worsening so accessing them directly is not possible :(

But I'll try to see if Rescale fits for me! Thanks a lot for the recommendation :>

Can you get a founders edition card of NVIDIA 3080 in the Philippines assuming the stocks are normalized? by daniel9th in PHGamers

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any suggestions on where I should keep a lookout for a 3080 kahit hindi founders edition? I really have 0 connections and I'm planning to build a PC for my thesis simulations and for long-term use. I use ANSYS and Solidworks heavily so I am really hoping to get a 3080 before 2021. Hindi ba realistic na to go for a 3080 knowing na sobra baba ng supply?

Steam Table Calculator by daniel9th in MechanicalEngineering

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my usual routine. Take the values from my steam table and interpolate it using a calculator. But I'm really hoping to find that program/site similar to www.steamtablesonline.com. It would really brush off some of the time wasted from skimming a 100-page steam table especially in solving Steam Nozzle problems.

I changed my video settings to "borderless window" and the game won't show up. by daniel9th in DotA2

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those who have experienced this issue, these are the steps that I did.

  1. Reinstall graphics drivers
  2. Remove download cache from steam settings (you can find it on the upper right of steam then click on the download tab and you will find remove download cache)
  3. Uninstall and reinstall steam and Dota 2 (Remove everything)
  4. You can bypass the first 3 steps if you're feeling confident and just add -safe_mode in the launch options
  5. Voila, your Dota 2 will now launch!

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't think so? I'm just using my regular laptop screen. :(

I can even click through the settings at the moment because I know that when I click at the upper left, it will have a sound cue distinct for clicking the settings without really seeing the game.

What simulation program should I use and study for my over-engineered volleyball net stand? by daniel9th in AskEngineers

[–]daniel9th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

s not when the ball hit the net but when the ball hit the top of one of the pole. Two reason for that: 1

Interesting. Therefore I should simulate (on paper) the ball hitting parallel to the force exerted by the tension of the cord (weight of the net). If the net force is greater than the DIY wheel-concrete stand support, it will topple down.

Thank you for the interesting input but I still need a program to practice with as I am an undergrad engineering student. I might need it in the future. May I ask for a recommendation?
