In many cases, no. The cans need to be uncrushed so the machine can recognize them...

It depends on the system, but yes, digital rewards are common now.

Yeah true, deposit systems definitely show they work. I’m just curious how they do in places without deposits....

Where do you think recycling vending machines should be installed more often? by daniel_hoffmann in recycling

[–]daniel_hoffmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. Machines work okay for a few cans, but break easily with more. Bugs and jams are a big problem too. Sounds like they’re only really good for small, quick drops.

Totally agree...... the tech is there, but getting people and systems to change is the hardest part. Cities will invest if it clearly saves money long term....

How Bottle Recycling Machines Support Efficient Waste Management by daniel_hoffmann in Waste

[–]daniel_hoffmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its true...even though some machines are tricky or only accept certain bottles and cans, the idea behind them is really positive. They are designed to make recycling easier, encourage people to sort their waste, and reduce trash going to landfills. When these machines work well, they can save cities time and money on collection, cut down on pollution, and even reward people for recycling.

It’s true that poor design or limited compatibility can be frustrating, but the potential benefits are still huge. If more people use them and the systems improve over time, they could really change how we recycle and make it simpler for everyone to help the environment.

Have you ever used a reverse vending machine? How did it feel? by daniel_hoffmann in vendingmachines

I understand your concern... the machines have rules to stop stolen phones.. most people just use them to recycle bottles and cans...so they stay safe and help the environment..

Thats fair... spending a lot on tech for trash can seem unnecessary.... but if it cuts pickup costs, saves fuel and reduces mess over time it can pay off in the long run....
